The EcoLeague
Sophomores, juniors and seniors have the opportunity to participate in the EcoLeague Exchange. The EcoLeague is a consortium of six colleges and universities throughout the United States united by a passion for ecologically focused education and sustainable living on-campus. In connection with the Center for the Environment, students who participate in this program can elect to spend a semester at one of the five other member campuses (Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage, AK; College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, ME; Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA; New College of Florida in Sarasota, FL; Prescott College in Prescott, AZ) and enroll in interdisciplinary coursework/participate in programming focused on the environment, sustainability, and beyond.

Locations
Alaska Pacific University (Alaska): Located on the land of the Dena’ina people, APU embeds Indigenous knowledge in all its courses and programs. The university is federally recognized as an Alaska Native-serving institution and attracts students from across Alaska and around the world. The diverse on-campus community of 550 students includes student-led clubs, an active Outdoor Programs department, and a regional Olympic training center for cross-country skiers.
APU offers undergraduate degrees in: marine and environmental sciences, sustainability studies, outdoor studies, environmental public health, community and place-based education, Alaska Native governance, business administration, counseling psychology, creative and professional writing, health sciences, and nursing.
College of the Atlantic (Maine): Nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and Acadia National Park, College of the Atlantic is a small liberal arts campus with approximately 350 students from 36 countries and 43 states. The diverse student body is matched by 35 faculty members who encourage interdisciplinary problem solving and an ever-evolving curriculum that adapts to students’ interests and the changing world.
COA students craft their own interdisciplinary program of study to receive a Bachelor of Arts or a Master of Philosophy in Human Ecology. All COA students put together a constellation of courses and area of focus that is unique to their interests. Common themes include marine studies, sustainable agriculture and food systems, environmental law and policy, fine arts, ecological planning, sustainable business and entrepreneurship, ecology and natural history, graphic design, conservation biology, film and animation, literature and writing, education and international environmental diplomacy.
Dickinson College (Pennsylvania): Dickinson College is a four-year residential liberal-arts college located in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. The college includes a 50-acre farm, the Center for Sustainability Education, the Center for Global Education, the Community Studies Center and various athletic facilities. More than 2,300 students from 44 U.S. states and 46 foreign countries are encouraged to be actively engaged with the wider world.
Dickinson offers students a bachelor of arts or bachelor of science degree in 22 disciplinary majors and 20 interdisciplinary majors, including 13 language programs. Additionally, more than 50% of students study abroad. Students are encouraged to get involved in 100+ student-run clubs and activities, including varsity, club and intramural sports; music and drama; publications; fraternities and sororities; and religious, political, special-interest and community-service organizations.
New College of Florida (Florida): Founded in 1960 and located in Sarasota, New College of Florida is a public liberal arts college that prepares intellectually curious students for lives of great achievement. New College offers nearly 40 undergraduate majors and a master’s degree program in Data Science. The 110-acre bay front campus is home to more than 800 students and 80 full-time faculty engaged in interdisciplinary research and collaborative learning. Undergraduates spend all four years living in on-campus residence halls, many of which were designed by renowned architect I.M. Pei. It is the only liberal arts college in the nation with a marine science research center located on its main campus.
Prescott College (Arizona): Founded in 1966, Prescott College is a four-year liberal arts college made up of a community of intellects and explorers whose connecting threads are a passion for social justice and the environment, and a keen sense of adventure. Prescott College is located in a resort town and surrounded by Granite Mountain, the Granite Dells, The Prescott National Forest and Thumb Butte, making the area attractive to students who seek outdoor adventure. The college includes the main campus and multiple field stations including Kino Bay Center for Cultural and Ecological Studies and Jenner Farm. The approximately 1,000 students that attend Prescott College participate in the many cultural, educational, and recreational opportunities that Prescott College and the surrounding area offer.
By offering undergraduate degrees in six interdisciplinary Areas of Study, students can pursue a wide variety of disciplines, in addition to incorporating interdisciplinary study. Through experiential learning and self-direction within an interdisciplinary curriculum, Prescott College strives to educate students of diverse ages and backgrounds to understand, thrive in and enhance our world community and environment. At Prescott College, the best learning is collaborative and the best teaching is individual.
Academics
Students will select their courses from their host institution's course catalogue. Additional guidance is available on the EcoLeague website including links to navigate each institution's course catalogue. Applicants should note that-- like St. Lawrence University-- course catalogues may not be finalized until after the application deadline. Interested applicants should contact the Faculty Coordinator for the EcoLeague for additional planning.
In order to maintain full-time student status, students must enroll in the equivalent of 4 SLU units of credit, or 15 US semester hours. All courses must be submitted, reviewed, and approved through SLU's Course Approval Request system.
Co-curricular
Students participating in the EcoLeague will be enrolled as students at their chosen host institution. With this, they will have access to all the resources on their host institution's campus, including numerous experiential learning opportunities, student clubs, and more.

Alaska Pacific University: Highlights include 179 acres of hiking across the Jim Mahaffey Trail System, a world-class Nordic ski center, a fitness center, and an active Outdoor Program.
College of the Atlantic: Highlights include a vibrant and changing array of student clubs and organizations--including Herbal Remedy Club, a Makerspace, Animal Pre-Professional Club, and beyond. They also include an active Outdoor Program, with numerous weekly excursions to Acadia National Park, the Bold Coast, and more.
Dickinson College: Highlights include a vibrant arts calendar, more than 110 student clubs and organizations, numerous club sports, a campus radio broadcast, the Center for Civic Learning and Action (CCLA), and a Mock Trial Team.
New College of Florida: Highlights include a new waterfront dock and related programming, as well as numerous clubs and organizations including theater troupes, acapella, scuba diving club, and more.
Prescott College: Highlights include the Green Mountain Center for Sustainability, the Frantz Fanon Community Strategy Center, easy access to areas like the Grand Canyon, and a campus tradition of Community Lunch.
Housing
Housing arrangements and facilities will vary depending on the host institution; however, all EcoLeague host institutions will guarantee on-campus housing for EcoLeague participants.
Calendar
Host institution calendars will generally align with St. Lawrence's schedule; however, applicants should note whether institutions operate by semester, trimester, or quarter calendars. Academic calendars for each institution are linked below.

Orientation
Pre-departure: The CIIS office organizes in depth orientation sessions on-campus prior to the students' participation in the program. This includes a program specific session(s) in which the students will learn more about the program, local or regional culture, academic expectations, and any other important information. There is also an orientation session led by the CIIS office on culture shock, what to expect, as well as safety and security while abroad.
