Our Admissions Process

You are so much more than a transcript and test score to us, which is why we believe in a holistic approach to admissions. This means we consider your academic achievements along with your activities, interests, and aspirations.

The St. Lawrence Affordability Compass

Our bold commitment to access and opportunity. Our Affordability Compass helps students and their families navigate the cost of a St. Lawrence education with confidence and clarity. It eliminates tuition for some, significantly reduces student debt for many, and ensures affordability for all through predictable contribution levels based on family income and assets.

Discover Your Path to Affordability

We’ll evaluate your academic record individually,  while looking at the context of what’s offered at your school. Competitive candidates to St. Lawrence typically present a transcript that shows:

  • Four years of English
  • At least three years of mathematics (algebra 1, geometry, and algebra 2 at minimum)
  • At least three years of sciences (at least two of which should be lab sciences)
  • At least three years of social studies (history, government, economics, sociology, geography, etc.)
  • At least three years of ancient or modern world language, and/or American Sign Language
  • Elective courses of interest

We’re looking for students who will positively contribute to our campus community; we want to know about your extracurricular and co-curricular activities, outside hobbies and interests, volunteer and work experience, and civic engagement.

If you have a strong high school record, we welcome your application regardless of how you performed on your SAT or ACT.

Students whose native language is not English and who are not attending an English-speaking school must submit either TOEFL or IELTS scores as proof of English language proficiency.

We gladly accept self-reported scores during the application process. Should you decide to enroll at St. Lawrence, you will need to provide official test scores from the testing agency or your high school.

Please note: your admission decision could be at risk if your self-reported scores differ in any way from your official score reports.

Indicate on your Common Application or St. Lawrence Application which scores, if any, you wish to be considered in the application process.

  • List St. Lawrence University as a recipient institution when registering for exams to ensure the testing agency sends us your report; use the appropriate school code:
    • SAT/TOEFL code: 2805
    • ACT code: 2896
  • If you decide to submit your scores, St. Lawrence will now accept self-reported scores at the time of your application. This means that you can send us your scores through:
    • An official score report sent by the testing agency (SAT/TOEFL code: 2805; ACT code: 2896)
    • Via email from your high school counselor
    • On your official high school transcript (if your school includes test scores on transcripts)
    • Self-reported by sending a screenshot or PDF of your full student score report to admissions@stlawu.edu (the screenshot or PDF must include your full name)
  • If you’ve taken a test multiple times, please submit all of the results. You should not convert, superscore, or recalculate your self-reported scores in any fashion.

We gladly accept self-reported scores during the application process. Should you decide to enroll at St. Lawrence, you will need to provide official test scores from the testing agency or your high school.

Please note: your admission decision could be at risk if your self-reported scores differ in any way from your official score reports.
