The Affordability Compass: What It Means For Your Family  

The Affordability Compass is our commitment to access and opportunity. It eliminates tuition for some, significantly reduces student debt for many, and ensures affordability for all through predictable contribution levels based on family income and assets.

How to Access the Affordability Compass

Step 1) Complete the Common Application or the St. Lawrence Application

Step 2) Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine eligibility for federal, state, and institutional aid resources. You can send your results to St. Lawrence using our FAFSA code: 002829.

Frequently Asked Questions

Starting in Fall 2026, U.S. citizens and permanent residents entering as first-year or transfer students who complete the FAFSA will be considered for the Affordability Compass.

Yes. All students are automatically considered for merit scholarships. Merit scholarships may be a part of your total aid package and contribute to tuition reduction through the Affordability Compass. 

Yes. By applying for aid via the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), your eligibility for a Federal Direct Loan will be determined. You must apply for financial aid via FAFSA unless seeking a private loan, and you must complete the FAFSA to access the Affordability Compass. 

Additionally, students can seek support through a private educational loan lender. Parents looking to borrow on behalf of their students can also apply.  See our resources on applying for financial aid.
