Estimated additional costs of off-campus study | St. Lawrence University Patti McGill Peterson Center for International and Intercultural Studies

Estimated additional costs of off-campus study

Additional costs of studying off-campus are estimated below. Airfares* are estimates from the New York city area and will vary according to dates and cities of departure. Check airlines and travel sites for current pricing.

Visa fees** and processes can change at any time and without notification. Students are given information about these processes but must obtain and follow the most up-to-date guidelines found on the web page of their host country's consulate. All visa fees provided below are for US citizens, consular fee for citizens of other countries may vary.

Immunizations required vary. Students must follow program requirements and the advice of the Center for Disease Control. Country specific advice is linked below. Prices & availability of vaccines may differ. Local administrators of vaccines include a Travel Clinic run by St. Lawrence County Public Health Immunization Clinics and the St. Lawrence University Torrey Health Center.

Students must have passports valid for a minimum of 6 months beyond the end of the program.

***St. Lawrence University requires all study abroad students to have health insurance that covers them internationally and includes repatriation. If your health insurance does not include international insurance coverage, there are many companies that offer such insurance specifically for students studying abroad.

The St. Lawrence student policy provides the required coverage. Students interested in purchasing the St. Lawrence University health insurance coverage should contact the SLU Student Financial Services Office at 315-229-5581.  Short-term policies are also available for purchase - details are available online using the search term, “insurance for study abroad students.”  A few companies that provide this type of short-term international coverage include Trawick International and HTH Worldwide. The short-term policies can be purchased for the exact time that the student will be studying off campus. Typically the premiums will cost from $35 - $60 per month.
