    I’ve played lacrosse since I was six years old, and during my first three years at St. Lawrence University, I was an enthusiastic member of the women’s lacrosse team. Competing with a collection of fierce, skilled, and dedicated female athletes has been one of the best experiences of my life. However, my senior year, I made a decision that would shock even myself. I quit.

    Andrew Matthews ’22 juggles more than schoolwork and co-curriculars during the school year. A business in the liberal arts and economics double major who is also a member of the Saints baseball team, Andrew equally spends his time working on strategy sessions, pitch decks, and public relations for Hoppz, an app he co-founded with friends and brought to life during the pandemic.

    My story begins when the white St. Lawrence University van I was riding in came to a stop outside of Madrid-Waddington Central School (MWCS), home of the Yellow Jackets, 20 minutes from campus. Inside the van, 15 St. Lawrence students waited to begin the first-ever cultural exchange mission organized by Common Ground Connections (CGC), a brand new club at the time.
