Augsbury/North Country Scholarship

What is the Augsbury/North Country Scholarship?

The Augsbury/North Country Scholarship (ANCS) was established in 1974 and serves to recognize academic and extracurricular leadership among designated North Country and Canadian high school students. If you were nominated by your high school and are selected as an ANCS Scholar, you will receive a scholarship of $35,000 for each of your four years at St. Lawrence University ($140,000 total). In order to maintain this merit award, you must maintain a 3.0 minimum GPA. Students nominated by their high schools who are not selected as Scholars but are offered admission to St. Lawrence will receive an annual scholarship of $28,000 for four years ($112,000 total). Self-nominated students are eligible for either of these scholarship amounts, as well as for a smaller annual scholarship of $20,000 for four years ($80,000 total). This scholarship is the first component of a competitive financial aid package, if a recipient has financial need greater than the amount of the scholarship as demonstrated via the need-based financial aid process. Information about applying for need-based financial aid is available here.

Who is named an Augsbury/North Country Scholar?

Nominations must be submitted by December 1 of the student's senior year. Starting with the graduating Class of 2021, we expanded the pool of nominees to include all interested and academically eligible students who attend designated high schools. To be eligible, students must attend a designated high school (the full list is available here) and have earned at least a 90 cumulative GPA at the end of their junior/eleventh-grade year (80 for students attending Canadian high schools) in a challenging curriculum. Whether students nominate themselves or are nominated by their school counselor, they must submit the Common Application or the St. Lawrence Application no later than December 1.

I am a school counselor at an eligible school. How do I nominate students?

Please visit the link provided to you by the Office of Admissions and complete the form for each student you would like to nominate who meet the above criteria. The counselor nomination form will close at the end of the day on December 1.

I am a senior at an eligible school and will graduate next spring. How can I nominate myself?

If you meet the above requirements and are planning to apply to St. Lawrence later this year, please complete the form here. The form requires you to upload a copy of your final report card from junior year/eleventh grade, which must list your cumulative GPA. The self-nomination form will close at the end of the day on December 1.
