Traces & Transformations: Recent Work by St. Lawrence University Studio Art Faculty brings together the works of Kasarian Dane, Rachael Marne Jones, Sarah Knobel, Liza Paige, and Melissa Schulenberg alongside works from St. Lawrence University’s Permanent Collection. Though each artist offers a distinct visual language and perspective, all share a common thread: exploring the marks of human existence through three- and two-dimensional forms that serve as records of meaning at both intimate and collective levels.
*This is an ongoing exhibition available to view during the gallery open hours.

North Country Japanese Garden
The North Country Garden, which was opened in the fall of 2008, was created through collaboration between Professor Mark MacWilliams and Professor Catherine Shrady. Combining an Asian Studies Initiative grant and a grant from the Dolan Family for building an outdoor geology lab, the idea of a traditional Japanese Zen garden with an Adirondack twist was born. Working with a group of St. Lawrence University students, Professor MacWilliams and Professor Shrady designed and built the garden following a trip to Japan. The garden is a place for quiet reflection as well as a living classroom for the arts, humanities and the sciences, specifically biology and geology, and has been lovingly cared for, largely through volunteer labor, to this day. Dr. Shrady, accompanied by Dr. Katharine Wolfe (the garden's current Director), will be on hand to introduce visitors to this unique campus space.

Join the 2026 Internship Fellowship award recipients to learn about the amazing work they completed this past summer! As part of Laurentian Weekend, students will be available to share their experiences from how they found/secured the internship to the value they took away from the experience. St. Lawrence University Fellowship recipients, McNair, CSTEP, and Tanner Fellows as well as O’Brien winners will be available on Friday afternoon to share stories of their research experiences from an 8-week summer research project. Students will be available to describe their projects and answer any questions. These presentations will highlight original work completed under faculty mentorship and reflect the depth of learning and exploration students achieve during their summer research experience. The reception will be from 4:30 – 5:00 p.m. and will celebrate the students who participated in these fellowships.

Outside of the Owen D. Young Library 
French American artist Sabine Gruffat will present her animation projects on the exterior of ODY Library from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Throughout the evening, Gruffat will showcase a retrospective selection of her 3-D animations and experimental films. Attendees are invited to relax among the Enchanted Forest to watch her work or stop by briefly while heading to other campus events. Join Nature Up North staff on a beginner hike at Hart's Falls Preserve starting at 9am. We'll begin by walking through the preserve's lovely open field and talking about some native plant species before venturing into the woods and heading to a stunning waterfall. Here, we'll discuss the geology of the county and how geology, hydrology, and time work together to create unique landscape features!
