The String Orchestra is open by audition to orchestral string players including students, staff, and faculty from the SLU campus as well as local professional and semi-professional musicians and talented local students. We endeavor to create memorable concert experiences for our audiences, whether it be standard repertoire or lighter pop music program selections.
A dedicated approach and passionate focus from its players have given the SLU String Orchestra its exceptional musical reputation on the university campus and throughout the local community.
The spring 2024 semester marks the twenty-year anniversary of the String Orchestra and to emphasize this special occasion, all music for this program will be selected by the players, culminating in our very first Musicians' Choice Concert!
All selections will be chosen by current orchestra musicians, featuring music from past programs, with musical styles varying from classical to Celtic and pop to film music. We will be performing a program of diverse styles and genres, sure to be enjoyable for our musicians and audiences.
The String Orchestra will once again be joined by woodwind, brass and percussion players on several selections, a traditional feature of our spring concerts, involving additional students and local professionals.
