Courses approved for the diversity requirement of our new curriculum need to include primary learning goals in which students develop "a capacity for critical self-reflection[...]; a recognition of diversity within and among groups[...]; and and understanding of the dynamics of power and justice[...]." Seven faculty members teaching courses approved for diversity credit participated in an assessment pilot in the Fall 2016 and applied the diversity rubric previously developed by the Teagle Grant to a written assignment of their students at the end of the semester. Diversity and Interactions across Difference at St. Lawrence Assessment Committee Paper #4
This paper examines three aspects of diversity: First, how Students of Color experience diversity on campus; second, to what extent students in general have meaningful interactions and experiences with diverse aspects of the campus cultures; and third, to what extent our curriculum including study abroad experiences contributes to a greater cultural understanding and diversity learning. Teagle Grant (2008-2012): Developing a Process Model for Systematically Assessing and improving Liberal Education: The St. Lawrence University Diversity Requirement as Case Study
