Proctoring Exam/Quiz Information for Faculty

Faculty Proctoring Information

Some students request exam accommodations due to their documented disabilities. The best place for a student to take an exam is with or near the professor giving the exam, however Student Accessibility Services (SAS) can assistance professors who have logistical problems in granting these accommodations. Here are some of the most common kinds of accommodations students may be granted: Extended time on a test (never unlimited time), Alternate site (distraction free room), Questions read to student, Use of a computer, and a Scribe for answers.

Exams are proctored in Fox Hall with computers without internet access, text to speech software, and a proctor. Students are required to leave phones, backpacks and anything unrelated to the exam in the proctor's office.  All students are monitored throughout the exam for academic integrity.

Students with approved testing accommodations may make an appointment to take their exams at Student Accessibility Services located at the Fox Center for Academic Opportunity.  If you have not yet approved this semesters IEAP accommodations, go to your email and look for messages from your SAS advisor.

We highly recommend you complete the request form 3 days prior to your quiz/exam to ensure space and resources are available.   Exams must be scheduled to be taken at the same time as the regular classroom exams and be taken in one sitting.  The only exception is an injury or when time accommodations extend into another class time.

Student Expectations

  • The Student Accessibility Services office instructs students to activate their Individual Educational Accommodation Plan (IEAP) letters to each of their professors during the first few weeks of class – both fall and spring semesters.  However, some students prefer not to reveal their need for accommodations until later in the semester.
  • Once a student has activated their accommodations for that semester, faculty will receive an email from the Student Accessibility Services Advisor with their accommodations.
  • Students are responsible for filling out the exam/quiz form which is a request  for SAS to proctor at a separate location in Fox Hall.
  • Students are responsible for cancelling there proctoring appointments through this link and will need to make a new request by filling out the exam/quiz form.
  • All students using the Student Accessibility Services exam rooms are bound by the St. Lawrence University Honor Code which can be found in the student handbook.
  • Any student observed utilizing any unauthorized resource during an exam will be reported to the professor.
  • During the exam, students are allowed to bring and use only the materials that have been indicated by the professor.
  • All students will be monitored by the proctor for academic integrity.
  • The exam time begins at the time scheduled: the exam will end at the completion of the approved extended time accommodation.
