Our First-Year Program is one of the oldest living-learning programs in the country, helping students make successful transitions from high school to college, intellectually and socially, since 1987. In the fall semester, students live and study together in the First-Year Program course, developing the writing, speaking, and research skills needed for college. They continue to develop these skills in a spring First-Year Seminar.

When Somdeep Sen ’07 walked into the first class for his First-Year Program at St. Lawrence University in 2003, he never envisioned that his professor would become a lifelong mentor with whom he would co-author a book more than 18 years later.
For St. Lawrence University’s newest students, the journey to a new academic adventure in the North Country has been especially remarkable. Though a global pandemic may have disrupted their high school careers, they have already demonstrated a steadfast commitment to their academics and their communities.
