Cynthia Bansak
Charles A. Dana Professor of Economics Cynthia Bansak recently had a paper published in the China Economic Review. The paper, titled "The effect of family size on intergenerational support for elderly parents and their life expectancy: Evidence from China’s ‘Later, Longer, Fewer’ campaign," finds that elderly parents in China live longer if their adult children were exposed to the “Later, Longer, Fewer” (LLF) family planning campaign in the 1970s.
Bansak also recently presented a paper at the University of Glasgow on August 7 titled, "The Impact of Grandparents as the Main Caregiver on Children's Health Outcomes in China." This was part of a research session at the 17th Chinese Economic Association annual conference in Europe. The theme of the conference was "Digital Transformation and Economic Structural Change," held August 5-7 at the University of Glasgow. The conference brings together academics, industry experts, and policy makers from around the world to explore the transformative impact of digital technologies on economic structures, foster interdisciplinary dialogue, and promote sustainable innovation.
Bansak was also recently named an Associate Editor of the Journal of Chinese Economic and Business Studies. The Journal is dedicated to publishing original research that addresses key aspects of sustainable development, with a particular focus on the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Its multidisciplinary approach spans economics, finance, and business, with an emphasis on research that contributes to our understanding of global challenges such as climate change, the integration of big data and financial technology into economic systems, and the promotion of equality and diversity.
