Environmental Studies Department Honors the Memory of Dr. Carolyn “Carrie” Johns at the Living Lab
On October 4, 2025, the Environmental Studies Department at St. Lawrence University held a dedication ceremony at the Living Lab to honor the memory of Dr. Carolyn “Carrie” Johns. The event brought together close family, friends, and colleagues for a thoughtful remembrance of Carrie’s dedication to environmental education, community, and stewardship.
The ceremony began with opening remarks by Professor David Murphy, followed by a moment of silence and reflection in nature to honor Carrie’s deep connection to the environment. Attendees shared personal memories of how Carrie’s passion and kindness had a lasting impact on their lives and the community.
During the ceremony, the Environmental Studies department chair, Associate Professor Sara Ashpole, announced the Carrie Johns Environmental Internship, providing students with hands-on learning and research opportunities inspired by her work. Professor Jon Rosales announced the dedication of an orchard in Carrie’s honor, honoring her dedication and contributions to the Living Lab and the department, and presented her parents with gifts to honor her life.
