    St. Lawrence University is furthering its support of student well-being and mental health by partnering with The Jed Foundation (JED) and their signature program JED Campus, a nationwide initiative designed to help colleges evaluate and strengthen their mental health, substance misuse, and suicide prevention programs to provide strong mental health support systems for students.

    Last week, Saints Field Hockey defeated Utica College on the road 4-3 while Men’s Soccer competed against SUNY Cortland at home. On Thursday, Women’s Ice Hockey hit the ice against No. 9/10 Penn State, securing a season-opening win on Thursday and an overtime tie on Friday. On Friday, the volleyball team competed against Ithaca College in a Liberty League match-up.

    Several Saints athletics teams celebrated home Laurentian Weekend wins. Football defeated Castleton University 55-3 at Leckonby Stadium on Saturday while Men’s Soccer beat Union College in their Liberty League opener at Sandy MacAllaster Field and Women's Soccer defeated Union College on the road. Alli Sibold ’23 won the Hoffmann Invitational 6K and the women’s cross country team took the team title while Timothy Boyce ’24 won the Hoffmann Invitational and led the men’s team to a team victory at home. The Saturday competitions continued with Women's Tennis going 21-3 in their matches as they hosted SUNY Geneseo and RIT in the St. Lawrence University Invitational at the Sammis Tennis Courts. Men’s Golf hit the links at Paul Smith College while Volleyball competed against RIT and Saints Field Hockey competed against Skidmore College at home. On Sunday, Women's Soccer traveled to Vermont to compete against Middlebury College.

    Social Media: National Suicide Prevention Month

    As part of National Suicide Prevention Month, our new Office for Wellness Education and several other campus departments and groups invited students to take part in the national “The World Needs You Here” Week. Students were encouraged to write appreciation notes for themselves or to a friend, get trained to support those struggling with suicidal thoughts, participate in reflections with University Chaplain Shaun Whitehead, unwind at Friday’s Doggy De-stress, or run in last Saturday’s Laurentian 5K. We shared an important message on Instagram about the week ahead earlier last week.

    St. Lawrence University Names John Christopher as Inaugural Vice President and General Counsel

    St. Lawrence has named John Christopher its inaugural Vice President and General Counsel, President Kathryn A. Morris announced on Aug. 10. Christopher, who will also serve as Secretary of the University Corporation, plans to begin his duties on Sept. 12.
