MINUTES OF ST. LAWRENCE UNIVERSITY SAFETY COMMITTEE/
ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON CAMPUS SECURITY HELD VIA TEAMS
ON FRIDAY, May 1, 2026, STARTING AT 800 A.M.

New Business: Pesticide Application Plan & Integrated Pest Management (IPM)

Summary of Report
- No pesticide applications were made in the previous year.
- No applications are planned for the upcoming year unless:
- Emergency conditions arise
- Broadleaf weeds exceed acceptable thresholds on game fields
- Grub infestations occur (primarily softball and football fields)
Application Timing Windows
- Grub monitoring: June 3–30
- Emergency applications: Mid‑August
- Broadleaf weed treatment: Typically, August (after sports camps, before football)
Products Identified
- Trimec – Broadleaf weed control
- Mallet – Insecticide for grubs, applied with fertilizer (not sprayed)
Operational Notes
- Sprayer use on athletic fields is primarily for liquid organic nitrogen fertilizer, not pesticides.
- Any pesticide application will be communicated to Pat, Jada, and Suna, and treated areas will be marked for 24 hours.
- Marcus continues to apply under Jim Hennessy’s pesticide license.
IPM Plan Updates
Due to personnel and vendor changes (including the sale of TTS), the IPM plan requires revision. A review group will include:
- Marcus Sherburne
- Mary Jo
- Bruce
- Suna Stone
- Ceyda (Jada) Onaran Kartal
Areas requiring review:
- Ornamental/tree pesticide licensing
- Residential/building pest treatments (e.g., wasps/hornets in late summer)
- Boiler treatment chemicals
Office of Fire Prevention & Control Inspection Update

Inspection Summary
- Inspections conducted March 30 – April 17
- Report received April 23
- Approximately 120 citations, all classified as minimal hazards
Common Issues Identified
- Fire doors propped open or not latching
- Electrical panel doors open
- Microwaves/refrigerators plugged into extension cords
Corrective Actions
· Half of all issues have already been corrected, with support from Facilities and other departments.
· Re‑inspection expected after mid‑May, typically four weeks after report issuance.
