Accident Reporting Process
Employees must:
Notify supervisors within 24 hours.
Notify Safety & Security if medical treatment is needed.
Complete the accident reporting form.
Accident Trends (2020–2026)
Ceyda highlighted:
- An increase in reports post‑COVID reopening.
- Near misses (orange category) are encouraged because they help identify hazards early:
“These are the ones actually we want to see because these are the near misses…”
- Medical‑only cases (blue category) are typically minor (doctor visits).
Lost‑Time Injuries
- Only two since Ceyda started.
- One was very short (a day or hours), one longer.
- Some incidents were due to campus conditions (e.g., loose brick, knee pain after a fall).
Top Causes of Accidents
- Slip, trip, and fall (especially winter ice)
- Strains and sprains (musculoskeletal)
- Cuts (mostly dining services)
Department Trends
- Dining Services: High reporting rate (mostly near misses), burns, cuts, wet‑floor slips.
- Grounds & Custodial: Musculoskeletal issues, slips, ergonomics.
How Data Is Used
- Immediate investigation of incidents and near misses.
- Coordination with Facilities to correct hazards.
- Updating safety training.
