Peter Ladd
Dear Laurentian Community,
I write today to share the sad news that Professor Emeritus of Education Peter Ladd died on June 5 at the age of 78.
Peter joined the St. Lawrence University faculty in 1976 and devoted nearly five decades to teaching in the University’s graduate and undergraduate education programs. A counselor by training and a prolific author, he published more than a dozen books on counseling, multiculturalism, and conflict resolution over the course of his career. In addition to his academic work, Peter served for 40 years as a counselor on the Akwesasne Mohawk Reservation, reflecting his long-standing commitment to the North Country and Indigenous communities.
A Pennsylvania native, Peter earned his master’s degree from Duquesne University and his doctorate in psychology from U.S. International University in California. He was a member of the American Counseling Association and found great joy in sailing, writing poetry, and summers at his cherished cottage on Grindstone Island in the Thousand Islands.
Peter retired from St. Lawrence in 2024. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Kyle Blanchfield, his son Dorian, granddaughter Kinzlee, and extended family.
Please join us in celebrating Peter’s life by sharing your memories of him on the St. Lawrence University website. You can read the remembrances of others here.
Sincerely,
Kate Morris
