The English department offers majors and minors that allow students to take literature and writing courses in a variety of combinations. The department also offers a combined major with Environmental Studies.  The English major consists of four introductory courses, the research methods course, advanced courses in five distinctive studies areas, and a Senior-Year Seminar.  First-year students interested in majoring in English are encouraged to take any course at the 100, 200, or 3000 level, except ENG 250: Methods of Critical Analysis, which is the research methods course.
