Requirements for the Mathematics-Economics Combined Major

The requirements for the interdisciplinary major in Economics and Mathematics are given below. It is essential that the student work closely with advisors in both the Economics and the Mathematics Departments in planning their program.

*These courses may be omitted with advanced placement credit or other advanced standing.

To declare the major, a student must have: 

  • At least a 2.0 university cumulative average and at least a 2.0 cumulative average in ECON classes. 
  • At least a 2.0 grade in ECON 251 and/or 252, if completed. These courses must be taken at St. Lawrence University before the end of the junior year.  Students who took ECON 251 or 252 pass/fail cannot declare the major, as a "P" (pass) does not meet the 2.0 requirement. 

These conditions must be maintained to continue in the major.

How to declare this major:

  1. QUALIFY. You must have a 2.0 GPA in economics as well as have a 2.0 or higher in ECON 251 and 252 if either course has been taken.
  2. MATH ADVISOR. You will need to find an advisor in Mathematics.
  3. TRANSCRIPT. Download a PDF copy of your unofficial transcript from APR 2.0. You will need to upload it as part of the major declaration form. 
  4. MAJOR DECLARATION FORM. This online form must be completed here: https://student.stlawu.edu/portal/status
