Our Transfer Admissions Process
First Steps for Transfer Admission
We welcome applications from students who wish to transfer from two-year or four-year institutions. Due to our graduation and residency requirements, we can only accept up to two years’ worth of credits from another institution.
If you graduated from a two-year college and have completed a liberal arts program, you can expect to begin your academic journey at St. Lawrence as a junior.
To be accepted, you must have maintained at least a 2.8 GPA or higher in your college coursework. We’ll also review the high school transcripts of all transfer applicants, though we place more weight on the high school record for applicants who are in their first year of college.
Transfer Application Checklist
- Common Application or St. Lawrence Application
- Official copy of your high school transcript (sent directly to us by your high school)
- Official copy of your college transcript (sent directly to us by each college you’ve attended)
- Official standardized exam scores (optional for most applicants)
- A letter of recommendation from a college professor (sent directly to us by the professor)
- Transfer College Report (to be completed and sent directly to us by an official at your current college)
- Transfer Mid-Term Report (to be filled out by each of your professors for your current classes)
- Resume (optional)
We cannot accept transcripts, recommendation letters, or transfer college reports submitted by students. High schools, colleges, and professors must submit these materials via the Common App for Transfers or directly to admissions@stlawu.edu.
Transferring Course Credits
- We will accept up to 17.5 credits toward our graduation requirement of 33.5 units. This means you’ll be required to take at least 16 course units as a St. Lawrence student, which takes at least two years.
- Once a transfer student is admitted, the Registrar’s Office conducts a transfer credit evaluation and posts the results to the online student portal. The Office of Admissions is not involved in decisions regarding the transfer of credits from other colleges.
- Generally, if an applicant has earned at least a C in a course and if a similar or equivalent class is listed in our University Catalog, the applicant can expect to receive at least partial credit for that course.
- Your transfer credit evaluation will also tell you which of our graduation requirements have been satisfied by your previous coursework and which ones remain outstanding.
You can find more information about our general education requirements in our University Course Catalog.
Domestic Transfer Students
Admitted transfer students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents:
- with a 3.0 cumulative GPA or above will receive a merit scholarship worth $50,000 per year/$25,000 per semester.
- with a 2.99 college GPA or below will receive $35,000 per year/$17,500 per semester.
- who are first-year transfers and haven't yet earned college credits will be eligible for a merit scholarship based on our model for first-year applicants (ranging up to $40,000 per year/$20,000 per semester).
These scholarships are in addition to need-based aid through the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Be sure to list St. Lawrence as the recipient of your FAFSA results (our school code is 002829).
