From Appleton Arena to the professional ranks, Emma-Sofie Nordström ’26 is breaking new ground.
The standout goaltender became the first Danish player ever selected in the Professional Women’s Hockey League Draft when PWHL Hamilton chose her with the 54th overall pick. An alternate captain for the Saints and one of 10 Olympians in this year’s draft class, Nordström now takes the next step in an already historic hockey career.
“I am not sure what Hamilton’s expectations are for her, but I know she will exceed them,” says head coach Chris Wells. “Emma and [Abby] Hustler ’25 are back together and they will enjoy the reunion. Very happy for her and her family. She is going to be a fantastic pro!”
Nordström was a two-time All-ECAC Hockey selection for the Saints, and an ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Year Finalist in 2023-24. She closed out her Scarlet and Brown career with a 1.96 goals against average and a .933 save percentage in 2025-26. Her save percentage ranks second and her career goals against ranks third overall in the Saints record book. Her 2,398 saves, her 15 career shutouts, and her 51 career wins all rank fourth. In total, she holds down 13 spots in St. Lawrence’s record book.
Internationally, Nordström has backstopped Denmark in four World Championships—two at the highest level and two in the Division I ‘A’ group—and made the 2022 Beijing Olympic team.
Nordström joins a lineup of Saints currently in the PWHL:
