Microsoft Teams provides several ways to manage conversations involving multiple participants. Whether you need to add someone to an existing call, place calls on hold while starting another conversation, or merge separate calls into a single discussion, Teams offers flexible options to help you collaborate efficiently and connect the right people at the right time.
Add someone to an active call:
- While you are in a call:
- Choose People
- In the Participants window, type the name of a contact or the phone number in the search box and select.
- Teams will call the selected contact or phone number, and they will receive a prompt to join the group call.
Make multiple calls at the same time:
- If you're already on a call, you can answer or initiate a new call anytime.
- Your current call will be on hold and you will go to your new conversation.
- Both calls will appear in separate call windows, resuming one will place the other on hold.
- Note: You can have one active call and up to five calls on hold at the same time in Teams for a maximum of six concurrent calls by a single user.
Merging calls:
While you're on a one-on-one or group call, you might want to bring someone else into the conversation. You can make (or answer) another call while you're still on the first call and then merge it with your first call.
- The first call is automatically put on hold when you make (or answer) another call.
- From the call menu and select More actions ... and then Merge calls.
- In the following prompt, choose Merge to confirm.
