Scarlet and Brown Athletic Rundown!

Saint's Softball started their year in Florida, finishing with an above .500 record after nine games played in the Sunshine State. They took wins over Washington & Jefferson, Nazareth, Lawrence, Wellesley and Keuka, winning three straight games to finish the trip. Their best performers swept the Liberty League awards, with Meredith Rose '24 winning player of the week, Layne Fritz '26 being named pitcher of the week, and Allison Kloft '27 tabbed as rookie of the week.

Baseball also won four games in Florida to start their season, winning two each against Worcester State and Knox College. 

Kristina Bahl '24 scored at 10:25 of overtime to lift the women's hockey team to a historic 1-0 win over Penn State in the NCAA Regional Semifinals on Thursday night in Madison, Wisconsin. The win marked the first tournament win for the Scarlet and Brown since 2007, and the first tournament win for head coach Chris Wells. The Saints then had their season end in the NCAA quarterfinal at the hands of Wisconsin. 

Men’s hockey entered their ECAC quarterfinal series as the road team against Colgate, and dispatched them in two straight games to advance to the ECAC semifinal in Lake Placid, New York this weekend. Luc Salem '24 had the game-winner in a 3-2 double overtime marathon in game one, Jan Olenginski '27 scored the series-clinching goal and Ben Kraws M'25 made 41 saves in a 3-2 game two win. St. Lawrence faced Quinnipiac in the ECAC semifinal and took home the win where they moved on to play in the ECAC championship on Saturday, March 23 where they were defeated by Cornell.

No. 4 nationally ranked men’s lacrosse has established itself as one of the strongest teams in the NCAA after two straight wins over other nationally-ranked opponents. They downed No. 11 York 9-8 with a highlight-reel overtime goal from Ben Hutchinson '24, and No. 5 Christopher Newport 13-12 in another overtime thriller.

Battle for the ECAC Championship Title!

The Skating Saints began an exhilarating journey by fiercely defending their home ice against Yale University in the opening round.

In the quarterfinals, the Scarlet and Brown showcased their dominance, sweeping the rink in a best-of-three series against Colgate University. The first game unfolded in a nail-biting fashion, with a thrilling 3-2 victory after two rounds of overtime. The second game saw the Saints secure a clean 3-2 win by the end of the third period.

Advancing to the semifinals, the Saints shut out the reigning national champions, Quinnipiac University!

Following the gritty playoff run, The Skating Saints took on Cornell to battle for the ECAC championship title. The saints fell just short with Cornell taking the Whitelaw Cup in a 1-3 loss for the Saints.

Saints Upset Rivals and Display Dominance

• Women’s Hockey: No. 7 ranked Saints took down No. 9 Clarkson Friday night in a high-scoring 6-5 conference game. Graduate student Anna Segedi led the way with two goals, while graduate student Claire Tyo netted three assists in the effort. Junior Emma-Sofie Nordstrum had 33 saves in the first game of the Route 11 rivalry, as the Saints split the weekend with Clarkson.
• Men’s Hockey: In the Route 11 Rivalry this weekend, juniors Isack Bandu and Jan Lasak each scored a goal to upset No. 20 Clarkson 2-1 Saturday night in conference play. Sophomore Mason Kucenski stopped 26 shots as the Saints split the weekend with their regional foes. 
• Nordic Skiing: Senior Emma Strack is participating in the 2025 FIS Nordic Junior/U23 Cross-Country World Ski Championships in Schilpario, Italy. She will go through a short training camp In Seefeld, Austria before taking part in the championships. Strack will be competing in the classic sprint on February 4, and the classic mass-start 20k on February 6, where she will look to become a world champion.
• Men’s Basketball: The Saints swept this weekend on the road going 2-0. First, they took on Hobart Friday Night, winning 58-52 with four players reaching double digits in points. In front was sophomore Troy McPherson, who had 13 points off the bench. Saturday afternoon the Saints beat RIT 91-76, which is the highest team total of points since the 2018-2019 season.
• Women’s Basketball: The Saints dominated Willam Smith 64-46 Friday night on the road in Geneva. Junior Caelan McHarney put up a career-high of 16 points in just 19 minutes, while sophomore Elizabeth Flynn also put up 12 points.
• Track-and-Field: Both the men’s and women’s teams put on strong performances at the St. Lawrence Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The men’s team grabbed first place in a dominant performance as their total team score was 67.5 points ahead of second-place Utica. On the women’s side, the Saints placed second overall thanks to multiple strong outings, including freshman Avery Blanchard placing first in the mile event, and sophomore Quinn Sirgany placing first in the 800-meter. The relay team of junior Cameran Stone, junior Adriana Cecchetelli, first-year Avery Blanchard, and sophomore Quinn Sirgany placed first in the distance medley with a time of 13:05.70, which allows them to go to regionals.
• Squash: First-year Gregory Malsang won his quarterfinal match of the Molloy East to set the tone for both the men’s and women’s squash teams at the CSA Individual Nationals at Open Squash in New York, N.Y. He faced Bates’ Alec Spiro, where he swept the match 11-6, 11-2, and 11-6 and made it to the semifinals where he unfortunately lost to Huzaifa Ibrahim from Trinity. On the women’s side, first-year Angel Otshabeng made her debut against Georgetown’s Rachel Mashek in the quarterfinal of the Holleran West Bracket. She put up a fight but ultimately lost 11-4, 11-8, and 11-7.

Route 11 Rivalry Weekend

From the ice to the stands, the Route 11 Rivalry brought ALL the energy this past weekend! Both the women’s and men’s teams skated away with a win at Clarkson’s Cheel Arena, and Saints Nation showed up loud and proud as per usual in the Marsh Pit. On Thursday, January 23, President Morris sent a message to the St. Lawrence community about the passing of Professor Emeritus of History Jonathan Rossie. Jonathan was a beloved member of the faculty for 32 years, during which he inspired generations of students and left an enduring legacy at St. Lawrence University. Read the message.

Saints to Compete in Liberty League Matchups

It was a great weekend to be a Saint! On Saturday, Saints men's basketball closed out the regular season with a 71-63 win over Union, the team's sixth straight victory, after topping Skidmore 65-55 on Friday. Both the men's and women's basketball teams will head to the Liberty League Semi-Finals this weekend. The wins for the Scarlet and Brown continued with Saints men's and women's tennis teams securing a pair of 9-0 wins over SUNY Oneonta at home on Saturday while men's hockey beat Cornell 1-0 on the road and women's hockey beat Princeton 3-1 at home after defeating Quinnipiac 4-1 on Friday.  During the CSA Team Nationals on Sunday, women's squash beat Haverford College 8-1 and several members of the Saints swimming and diving and track and field teams secured individual wins to qualify for league championships. Saints Basketball, Your Liberty League Champions!

It was an electric Sunday afternoon in Burkman as the Saints men’s basketball team dominated RPI 50-42 in overtime to secure the Liberty League championship. In a standing-room-only crowd, the Scarlet and Brown extended their winning streak to eight and improve to 19-7 after defeating Hobart 80-78 in the semifinals on Friday. The Saints will go on to compete in the NCAA tournament. The weekend wins continued with men's ice hockey shutting out Dartmouth 2-0 at Appleton to secure the fourth seed in the ECAC Tournament while women's hockey beat Quinnipiac 3-2 to conclude its season. Men's squash defeated Middlebury and MIT 5-4 during the Semifinal round of the Summers Cup at the CSA Team Nationals while Erik Geier '23 defended his Liberty League title in the 60-meter hurdles and broke a decade-old school record during the championship meet in Rochester. In recognition of their excellence in the classroom, several winter sport student-athletes earned Liberty League All-Academic honors. SLU Connect Links Laurentians 

SLU Connect—Washington, D.C. linked dozens of alumni, parents, and friends with students to network and explore different career opportunities in the D.C. area. Students attended a panel discussion at the U.S. Department of State, toured sites including the Capitol Building and World Bank, participated in roundtable discussions with industry experts, and much more! Wenger '24 Shatters Swim Record; Winter Sports Continue

Maggie Wenger ’24 broke a 1978 St. Lawrence program record when she won the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.92) during the six-team Don Richards Swimming and Diving Invitational at RIT on Saturday. Over the weekend, Men’s Squash swept Colgate, Hamilton, and Wesleyan 9-0 while Women’s Squash defeated Colgate 8-1 and Hamilton 6-3. Men’s Hockey defeated Colgate 4-3 at Appleton Arena while Women's Track and Field opened their season by taking home the team title at the Holiday Relays and Men's Track and Field secured five event wins at the five-team meet. After defeating Union 62-58 in their conference opener, Women’s Basketball defeated Skidmore 73-62 while Men’s Basketball edged Skidmore 58-57 in a close Liberty League contest.

Members of our campus community joined together for a traditional social dance celebration on campus last Wednesday night. The event was made possible thanks to our Native American Student Alliance student group and the Native North American Traveling College, which is committed to educating communities about indigenous cultures, histories, and traditions. Saints Shutout the Competition

Field Hockey: Senior Sydney LeClair opened the scoring and senior Caroline Hamilton netted the go-ahead goal as St. Lawrence used a second-half surge to earn a 2-1 Liberty League win over Union on Sunday at Hall-Leet Stadium. Senior Elizabeth Walsh posted 19 saves over the week, earning Liberty League Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Women’s Soccer: Junior Sydney Keenan scored early and junior goalkeeper Zoe Davenport posted a clean sheet as St. Lawrence earned a 1–0 Liberty League road win over RIT. With nine league points, the Saints sit fifth, two points ahead of RIT and four ahead of Ithaca and RPI for the final playoff spot.

Women’s Hockey: First collegiate goals from first-years Meghan Crowley and Brooke Mulvihill, plus an empty netter from graduate student Alexa Davis and a shutout by junior goalie Kassidy Lawrence, powered No. 14 St. Lawrence to a 3-0 win over RIT to earn a weekend split.

A Day in the Life of an NYC Intern!

Navya Aggarwal ’26, a double-major in business and economics, is spending the first half of her senior year interning at Neuberger Berman in New York City. The biggest challenge, she says, is also the best part—that is, finding balance  between her professional, academic, and personal life.
