On February 11, President Morris informed the Laurentian community about the passing of Professor Emerita of Sociology Patrice Elaine Patterson LeClerc. Patrice was a beloved faculty member from 1995 until her retirement in 2013, during which time she enriched the academic community at St. Lawrence through her teaching, research, and dedication to her students. Saints Baseball Sweeps Competition, Saints Spring Sports ContinueSaints baseball swung into the spring season with a sweep–defeating Old Westbury 1-0 and 13-9 during the Russmatt Invitational in Florida. The wins for the Scarlet and Brown continued with Saints men's lacrosse dominating Bates 16-7 and the University of Lynchburg 14-5 at the Mustang Classic in Maryland, as the women's team secured a 14-11 win over University of Rochester at home. Saints esports shut out Bellarmine University 2-0 after defeating Brewton-Parker College 2-0 and Marist College 4-2 last week. Skating Saints defenseman Luc Salem '24 was named a Second-Team All-ECAC Hockey selection and Abhisheka David '26 and Nick Lynadker '26 were named 2022-23 Liberty League rookies of the year in women's squash and men's indoor track and field. Men's soccer beat Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in a 1-0 game with Ben Woelfinger ’23 gaining his fifth career shutout. Saints Post Dominant WinsWomen’s Soccer: Senior Meredith Donahue tallied a goal and an assist as the women’s soccer team earned a balanced 4-0 win over Bard College at the Lorenzo Ferrari Soccer & Lacrosse Complex in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. The Saints improved to 5-3-3 overall and 1-1-0 in Liberty League play. Football: Six touchdowns, including five from senior Will Lederman, powered St. Lawrence to a 45-14 Liberty League win over Hilbert on Saturday at Leckonby Stadium. Lederman passed for a career-high 341 yards and four touchdowns, completing 14 of 17 passes with a long of 73 yards. Senior Nicholas Huhtala added four catches for a career-best 137 yards, and senior Shea Goodwin recorded six receptions for 95 yards. Lederman was named LL offensive performer of the week, while first-year Luke Robillard picked up LL rookie of the week honors. Men’s Soccer: The men’s soccer team posted a dominant week, defeating Clarkson 2-0 and Bard 3-0 to move to 2-2 in Liberty League play. First-year goalkeeper Zach Amato recorded back-to-back shutouts to earn Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week honors. Women’s Swimming and Diving: Sophomore Lilly Mruzik, first-year Sophie Nelson, and the 200-yard medley relay team earned wins as the women’s swimming and diving team opened the season at the Union Quad Meet against Clarkson, Smith, and Union. Men’s Golf: Junior Gabe Ward led the Saints at the Hamilton Invitational, finishing fourth at the par-72 Rome Country Club with a two-day total of 148 and eight birdies. Senior Ben DeBiase improved by nine strokes on Sunday to climb 14 spots and tie for 18th overall. Men’s Cross-Country: Senior Nick Lyndaker earned his third Liberty League Performer of the Week honor following a standout run at the Paul Short Invitational. Saints Secure Weekend Wins, Spring Sports ContinueThe Scarlet and Brown dominated the competition this weekend as women's lacrosse defeated Union 10-9 and Skidmore 15-9 while men's lacrosse defeated Skidmore 13-8 after dominating SUNY Plattsburgh 19-4 under the lights last week. The wins for the Scarlet and Brown continued with women's tennis beating Vassar 5-4, Saints baseball securing a pair of wins over Hobart (5-4,12-11), and Saints softball sweeping SUNY Potsdam (6-5, 6-4) in its home opener last week. During the UVM Quad meet, Emma Palumbo '25 won the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the women's track and field team while Matt Serrano '26, Matt Abell '13, Erik Geier '23, Timothy Boyce '25, and William Hauf '25 each won events to lead the men's team. Men's rowing opened the spring portion of its schedule with a pair of wins over UVM and a win over Middlebury. Lewis Anderson '25 was named a College Squash Association Second Team All-American for the second consecutive year and Marvin Sibanda '23 was named D3soccer.com's Midfielder of the Year and a First Team All-American. An Out of This World ExperienceThanks to a travel grant from the Center for International and Intercultural Studies (CIIS), physics majors Ryan Carvel '24 and Tyler Karasinski '24 are spending this semester studying abroad in New Zealand.
