Move-In Day and Matriculation 2022 The Class of 2026 has officially started its journey as Laurentians.

Faculty Focus-August 22, 2022 Faculty members put their knowledge into action so students and others are able to benefit from it. Recently, faculty published research articles, presented at conferences, and served as expert panelists and podcast guests.

First Person: Finding My Passion and Personal Brand After a semester of exploring different classes at St. Lawrence, Owen Hammel ’22 still wasn’t sure where he wanted to focus his college experience, at least not until a favorite rap album inspired him to try his hand at video editing. Over the next few years, Owen tailored his classes to fit his growing passion for videography and honed his skills while capturing campus life as a member of the student marketing team.

First Day of Classes and Convocation Wed, Aug 24 - All day Convocation is a "calling together" of the academic community at the start of a new year. Its purpose is to mark by ritual a new beginning for our mission as a university and acknowledge the accomplishments of faculty and staff members who are part of St. Lawrence's academic community.

Welcoming Home Our Newest Laurentians This weekend, the St. Lawrence community welcomed new students and families during Move-In Day and Matriculation. Welcome, St. Lawrence Class of 2027! St. Lawrence’s newest Laurentians should already feel immensely proud of themselves. From their high school achievements in the classroom and community, the members of the Class of 2027 bring passion and curiosity to their next great adventure in the North Country and enter St. Lawrence with the highest-ever cumulative GPA of 93. Forty-three percent graduated at the top of their class. They celebrated their Matriculation on Sunday, August 20, and are now poised to make their mark on St. Lawrence.

St. Lawrence’s Friendly Students, Faculty, and Science Facilities Stand Out in The Princeton Review St. Lawrence University was named to The Princeton Review’s “Best 389 Colleges” list for 2024. Based solely on results from student surveys, the popular rankings publication once again recognized several exemplary aspects of co-curricular and academic life on campus.

Recently, faculty shared their expertise at conferences and published journal articles examining artificial intelligence, credit card best practices, research supported through national geographic and science foundation grants, and much more.

St. Lawrence in the News-August 2023 Several faculty and students were featured by domestic and international media outlets for sharing their work across disciplines of gender and sexuality studies, astronomy, environmental studies, and much more. Our Canton community was even recognized as a top college town in the Adirondacks region.

In Memory

On Monday August 28, President Morris sent a message to the community sharing that Piskor Professor Emeritus of Sociology Stuart Lee Hills GP’16 died on August 2 at the age of 90. For more than two decades at St. Lawrence, he served as a devoted teacher and mentor, and was a prolific researcher in his discipline. Read the Message.

Remembering Robert N. Wells, Jr., P’92, GP’23 & ’25 The St. Lawrence community is mourning the loss of a cherished family member, Emeritus Munsil Professor of Government Bob Wells, who taught at St. Lawrence for more than 45 years. Read the message from President Morris.

COVID-19 Winter Break Testing A testing clinic will be offered Tuesday, December 21, from 9 a.m.-12:15 p.m. in Eben Holden (South Room); parking is available in Lot C. There will not be any on-campus testing clinics offered the week of December 27. Testing clinics will resume in the new year on Wednesday, January 5, from 9 a.m.-12:15 p.m. in Eben Holden (South Room). These clinics are open to any current campus community member (students, faculty, and staff).

Physics Students Present SYE Research Results Outstanding Senior Year Experience research conducted by Alexander Gehl '22 and Paul Grant '22 during the fall semester was recently presented to members of the Physics Department.

Robin Rhodes Publishes Peer-Reviewed Book Chapter Director of International Student Academic Support Robin Rhodes recently published a peer-reviewed book chapter in the "Handbook of Research on Policies and Practices for Assessing Inclusive Teaching and Learning."

Athletics

Former Saints Football Coach Inducted into College Football Hall of Fame Andy Talley coached the Saints Football team from 1979-1984. He was recently inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame, making him the first coach in St. Lawrence history to receive the honor. Read more about his legacy.

St. Lawrence University Names John Christopher as Inaugural Vice President and General Counsel St. Lawrence has named John Christopher its inaugural Vice President and General Counsel, President Kathryn A. Morris announced on Aug. 10. Christopher, who will also serve as Secretary of the University Corporation, plans to begin his duties on Sept. 12.
