New 2024 Alpha Alpha Alpha InducteesSt. Lawrence's Eta Nu chapter of the Alpha Alpha Alpha first-generation college honors society inducted their newest class. Twenty-seven students and eight faculty and staff were inducted into the society. To be eligible, students needed to earned a GPA of at least a 3.2 and completed 9 units of coursework, while faculty and staff needed to have earned at least a bachelor's degree as a first-generation college student. |

Undergraduate students must complete a minimum of 12 semester hours (4 courses) in History, earned in the classroom, online or through AP or transfer credits (or a combination thereof). A minimum GPA of 3.1 in History and 3.0 GPA overall are required. |

Tis' The Season of Softball, Baseball, Golf, and Lacrosse!Jimmy King '26 was named the Individual Champion at the Liberty League Championships, leading Saints men’s golf to a second-place finish at the par-72 Shenendoah Golf Club at Turning Stone on Sunday. There was a playoff to determine the individual champion and Jimmy won on the second playoff hole. Jimmy finished with par on the first hole. Jimmy's opponent hit an errant drive on the second hole, leaving Jimmy with the win and a par. Judge Murphy '24 tallied six goals and an assist for seven points to lead the third-ranked Saints men's lacrosse team to a 15-10 upset win over fourth-ranked RPI on Saturday afternoon in Troy, New York. With the win, the Saints clinched the second seed in the upcoming Liberty League Tournament and earned regular season co-championship honors, with three teams finishing league play at 6-1. Second to Judge, Daniel Mahoney '27 recorded four goals and two ground balls, while Ted Wilson '26 scored twice. Two goals each from Liz Evans '24 and Jessica LaPlaca '27 were unfortunately not enough, as the seventh-seeded Saints women's lacrosse team fell 19-6 in the first round of the Liberty League Tournament to William Smith Tuesday. Both Saints baseball and softball wrapped up their regular seasons with two wins over the weekend. Baseball took two of three games against Clarkson, while softball swept Skidmore. Softball heads to RPI this weekend, hoping to lock down a playoff spot, while baseball engages Clarkson once more in the end-of-season series. Festival of Science, Scholarship, and Creativity! ❤️🤎On Friday, we forego regularly scheduled classes to celebrate our students’ academic accomplishments during the Festival of Science, Scholarship, and Creativity. This year, we learned how stress affects metamorphosis in frogs, how students think about sustainability on campus, how retinol has changed our relationship with aging, and how math can help us make better decisions in games like Monopoly or Dungeons and Dragons (among many other fascinating topics). During our annual Dance Showcase, we watch 16 students perform contemporary, jazz, Irish step, and classical pointe numbers. In the Brush Art Gallery, our gallery exhibition focused on “what we hold.” The 12 senior artists featured used a variety of mediums to consider the things in their lives that are hard to let go of—for better or worse. We couldn’t be prouder of all our students who shared their curiosity and creativity on Friday. Brush Gallery Digitizes Historic Haudenosaunee ChartsA series of Haudenosaunee educational charts from St. Lawrence University’s Owen D. Young Library Special Collections was recently digitized by staff from the Richard F. Brush Art Gallery. The charts, part of the Arthur and Shirley Einhorn Iroquois Collection MSS No. 196, were a gift to the University from the Einhorn family in 2015. |

Saints Basketball Dominates Home Court Matchups; Seasons ContinueIt was a winning weekend for the Saints! Women's basketball secured a 68-57 win over RIT on Saturday after defeating William Smith 82-59 on Friday and dominating Clarkson 74-47 at home last week while Saints men's basketball beat RIT 88-71 on Saturday after securing a 73-67 win over Hobart on Friday. The wins for the Scarlet and Brown continued with men's hockey shutting out Brown 6-0 on the road while women's hockey skated to a 3-2 overtime win over Cornell at home. Saints squash wrapped up its 2023 Liberty League Championships on home court this weekend after the women's team secured three sets of 8-0 wins over Vassar, Bard, and Denison before falling to William Smith in the championship match on Sunday while the men's team topped Bard 8-1 and Hobart 5-4 before falling to Rochester on Sunday. Saints Shatter Records; Head to Liberty League ChampionshipsThe Saints track and field teams dominated the Intercollegiate Twilight Meet as Kimberly Merchant ’22 set a program record in the discus and several Saints secured top spots in their competitions as they head into the Liberty League Championships this weekend. Women’s lacrosse is headed to the Liberty Leagues after defeating RIT 21-14 to set a new program record for wins in a season and securing a 16-13 victory over Nazareth while men’s tennis beat Ithaca 6-3 after dominating SUNY Oswego 9-0 on the road. Saints Baseball defeated Skidmore 15-5 and 18-8 in a doubleheader after securing a 22-6 win over SUNY Canton 22-6 earlier in the week. Over the weekend, the softball team concluded its regular season while the men’s and women’s rowing and golf teams closed their respective seasons during the Liberty League Championships. Federal Grant Supports Commitment to Student Mental Health and Well-BeingSt. Lawrence University has received a three-year, $287,061 grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to support its Comprehensive Care Network (CCN) Project. The project will use evidence-based approaches to improve the identification and treatment of at-risk students and expand access to services that address mental health, suicide prevention, and substance misuse. |

Student Research Investigates Ways to Save LivesAlice Khalil ’27, a neuroscience major and chemistry minor from Baniyas, Syria, spent her summer working on a faster, more sensitive way to detect heart attacks in their earliest stages. In the lab with Professor of Chemistry Samantha Glazier, she conducted research aimed at detecting even the smallest traces of troponin more accurately and earlier than current methods allow. |

On day two of the Colby College Carnival, Ethan Hejna ’22 and Victoria Cubina ’24 posted the top results in their respective slaloms for the Saints Alpine Ski Team. Exhibition: Change Is a More Accurate Measure of Time Photographs by Mark Klett, SLU class of 1974- Richard F. Brush Art Gallery This exhibition is presented in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Mark Klett’s graduation from St. Lawrence University in 1974. The show features 12 photographs from "El Camino del Diablo," a project based on a journey by a young mining engineer, Raphael Pumpelly, through Arizona and Mexico in 1861 on “the road of the devil.” |
Saints Secure Wins to Kick Off the Fall SeasonSaints Men’s Golf secured its first win of the season with a combined score of 602 at the Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course, marking the first victory for first-year Head Coach Dave Clausen at St. Lawrence. Gabe Ward ’27 finished as the tournament runner-up with a combined score of 147, earning him the Saints Athlete of the Week honors. Mary Grace McCann ’25 led the women’s golf team to a fourth-place finish at the St. Lawrence Invitational, placing third individually with a combined score of 157 (77, 80). Sadie Cumming ’28 also performed well, finishing 11th with a score of 169 (84, 85) in her collegiate debut. The winning streak for the Scarlet and Brown continued as Nick Lyndaker '26 secured a first-place finish at the Plattsburgh 5K, with a time of 16:11.4, propelling the Saints Men’s Cross Country team to the top of the leaderboard. Avery Blanchard ’28 led the women’s cross country team to a first-place finish with a time of 19:28.0 while Charlotte Blake ’27 and Adriana Cecchetelli ’26 followed closely, finishing in second (19:50.8) and third (20:02.1), respectively. At the Mary Hosking Invitational, Molly Jespersen ’26 advanced to the A draw final for Saints Women’s Tennis. She defeated RIT 8-6 in the semifinal match before falling to the University of Rochester. Saints Field Hockey will celebrate its 50th anniversary with alumni and friends during the home opener on Saturday, September 7, at 7 p.m. against SUNY Oswego.
