Pi Delta Phi - The French National Honor Society

PI DELTA PHI – THE FRENCH NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

St. Lawrence University - Eta Delta Chapter

Requirements for membership

In order to be eligible for membership in SLU’s Eta Delta chapter of Pi Delta Phi, a student must have completed five (5) courses in French at the 200 level or above, have a 3.4 grade average in French courses, and have earned a 3.2 cumulative average overall.  It is not necessary for the student to be a major or minor in Francophone Studies (French).  The student must, however, submit a request to the department to be considered for membership, and if invited to join, the student must attend the induction ceremony.  The one-time initiation fee is $30.00 to be paid by the deadline announced by the Department of World Languages, Cultures and Media before the induction ceremony is held.  Students may also choose to purchase honor cords for an additional $10.00.  Induction ceremonies are held once per year in the Spring at the Senior Reception held by the Department of World Languages, Cultures and Media.  Members receive a certificate, pin and, if they choose to purchase them, honor cords.

The purpose of the Society is to recognize outstanding scholarship in the French language and its literature, to increase the knowledge and appreciation of Americans for the cultural contributions of the French-speaking world, and to stimulate and to encourage French and francophone cultural activities.
