Thomas "Tom" Dildine

Dear Laurentian Community,

I write today to share the sad news that Thomas Dildine, a retired member of the St. Lawrence University Library staff, passed away unexpectedly on July 5 at the age of 66.

Tom grew up in Romulus, New York, where he developed a lifelong love of nature, technology, and learning. He earned an Associate of Science degree in Drafting from Alfred State University, where he was active in the photography and outing clubs. During his college years, he became an emergency medical technician and continued serving both professional and volunteer organizations for many years. He was also a certified scuba diver and participated in volunteer efforts to recover sunken objects from the Finger Lakes.

After moving to the North Country in the early 1990s, Tom joined the staff of the St. Lawrence University Library, where he worked for more than two decades before retiring in 2020. Through his years of service, he became a familiar and valued member of the Laurentian community.

Music was an important part of Tom’s life. He sang in church choirs for many years and was a member of the Noteworthy Handbell Choir. In recent years, he was an active member of the Hermon United Methodist Church, where he was known for his distinctive bass voice.

Tom is survived by his daughter, Kimberly; his half-brother, Steven Bennett; and his beloved dog and constant companion, Sunny.

Tom's years of service to St. Lawrence and his many interests and talents will be remembered by those who had the opportunity to know and work alongside him.

Please join us in honoring Tom’s life by sharing your memories of him on the St. Lawrence University website. You can read the remembrances of others here.

Sincerely,
Kate Morris
