In Memory: Richard "Rick" Lavine

Dear Laurentian Friends:

I write with the news that Retired Equipment Manager for Athletics Richard D. “Rick” Lavine died July 29 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.  Rick worked at St. Lawrence from 1979-2002.

When Bob Durocher learned of Rick’s death, he told me that like many quiet, behind-the-scenes Laurentians, “Rick was willing to go the extra mile for staff and student athletes. He did his work well with a lot of enthusiasm, looking forward every year to catching up with returning students and coaches.”  Randy LaBrake told me that “Rick was a very thoughtful, kind, and caring person. He always had a smile on and was willing to help in any way he could.”

An antiques admirer, Rick also loved spending time with his family, especially attending their sporting events. He was devoted to his dog Rivera. He was very active with the Zion Church and enjoyed spending time with his church family.

Lynn and I send sincere condolences to Rick’s wife of 57 years, The Rev. Patricia Lavine, and their family.  Services will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at 11 a.m. at the Zion Episcopal Church in Colton. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood on Monday, August 17, 2020 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
