In Memory: Margaret "Maggie" Blackmon

Dear Laurentian friends,

I write today with heartbreaking and devastating news. Margaret "Maggie" Blackmon '21 from Poulsbo, Washington, died this morning while in her room.

An anthropology major, Maggie's love of horses was well known and she was a three-year member of the Saints Riding team. She had a passion for the sport that she displayed throughout her life.

There are difficult days ahead as we remember Maggie. Her family and close friends, particularly her teammates, will also need our strength and prayers. I want you to know about the resources available in our community for support. These include the Dean of Student Life's office and Counseling Services. Our counseling team is on campus today at the Health Center and in the Chapel, and can always be accessed at any hour by calling Safety & Security at 315-229-5555. Students can also call Reachout of St. Lawrence County, a free, confidential, non-judgmental crisis and information hotline serving residents of St. Lawrence County at (315) 265-2422.

Later in this academic term, we will plan a gathering to honor Maggie's memory.
