Memories of Ruth Kreuzer
I am very sorry to learn of the passing of Ruth Kreuzer; she was an important part of my life and education at SLU. She taught me Russian for all four years, and while my grades in her classes were not great (luckily I took Russian pass-fail) my last two years, I learned a lot from her. This included not only the great Russian language, but about Russia in general - she helped me organize my trip to the Soviet Union between semesters senior year - and about perseverance and dedication. My parents and siblings stayed at her house one year on Parents Weekend, and she sent my wife Amy and I a wedding present when we married. What a marvelous professor and a great credit to SLU - may she Rest in Peace. Jason Duncan '85
I knew Ruth best when the Yoga Loft was coming into being. She was such a dedicated worker. Patricia Glover '61
So very sorry to hear of Ruth's passing. She was a pillar of Modern Languages all the time I was there: steady, and supportive of all our endeavors. Just a tiny memory here, but I have never forgotten it: I brought to a departmental party my 3-year-old daughter Grace, who, tottering around a glass dining table, stumbled, as I watched paralyzed, and Ruth, right there, zipped her hand on to the edge of the table, and Grace did not open her head but hit a hand, and never uttered a cry, just went on tottering through the crowd. Ruth, in our sometimes contentious department, was the colleague of all colleagues. She held her hand over all the edges.
Jerry, I remember her with great warmness. Know that I am thinking now of you and of your family. Roy Caldwell, Modern Languages
Ruth Kreuzer was a wonderful, energetic, and resourceful professor, and I regret not having the chance to work with her, either on committees or via collaborative teaching. Ruth did so much to sustain and enrich the teaching of Russian at St. Lawrence University. For a few years, she sponsored a professor from Moscow who contributed language and literature courses. She also led groups of students in trips through Russia, offering them opportunities that few people from this country ever have. My sincere condolences to her family and friends: I miss this colleague very much! Dorothy Limouze, Emeritus Professor of Art & Art History
