Memories of Linda M. Simmons

Linda has been someone I got very close to this year, moving into Kirk. I’m an avid diner at Spartacus. It became a routine to see Linda on her break outside and ask about her day. I looked forward to those interactions, looked forward to the exact same soup because I would get to say hello again. I extend my deepest condolences to the Simmons family for losing someone with such a warm heart and kind face. I also want to recognize the other dining staff members who this affects and tell you that every bit of the hard work you put into us is not unnoticed. We see you and love you; you are what makes our experience at SLU. Thank you Linda. Spartacus won’t be the same without you.  Kiana Lim, Class of 2026

As a long-time member of the St. Lawrence community, I have come to so appreciate the everyday Laurentian encounters that make this place so special. Linda brought such a sweetness to campus with her everyday and I will miss her willingness to share a smile, encouraging conversation and just the way doing she did her job with joy served as an inspiration for others to do the same.
Linda, you will be missed for the simple but profound kindness that you brought to SLU, xoxo  Mare MacDougall Bari, Athletics - Women's Hockey

I enjoyed spending time talking with Linda whenever I saw her in Johnson's, and Dana. Regardless of everything she persevered. despite not being aware of her struggle with cancer, I see her resilient spirit. Deciding to persevere on the daily and show up regardless of the realities with cancer. She is a fighter, an inspiration to us that no matter how difficult life gets there are things to celebrate and there is reason to continue living life to its fullest. Thank you Linda for blessing us with your presence. May your soul rest in peace and strength to the entire community of loved ones she left behind.  Nathan Inecia, Class of 2026

I am deeply saddened to hear of Linda's passing. You were the definition of gentle and kind. Your sweet smile made the hardest days better. You always brought such a peaceful and caring presence to us. Rest in peace, Linda—thank you for the grace and care you gave to those of us who saw you in Dana Dinning Hall.  Martha Chew Sanchez, Caribbean, Latina American and Latino Studies

I'm so sorry to hear of Linda's passing. Linda managed the Grab-N-Go in Johnson Hall prior to her move to the Spartacus Cafe. She was always a friendly and warm presence in the lobby of JHS during the midday lunch rush. Even if I was just passing by as she was setting up or closing up for the day, Linda would always take a moment to say hello and share a smile. My condolences to Linda's family and friends. Her presence on the St. Lawrence University campus will certainly be missed. Please know that she made a positive difference in the lives of faculty, staff, and students.  Ana Estevez, Biology

I am deeply saddened to hear about Linda's passing. Linda was an incredible colleague and an even better friend. She was always the first one to say "morning" to me as I arrived at work. My thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time. You will be greatly missed!  Bailey Green, Dining and Conference Services
