Memories of Dick Metcalf ’63, M’67

I've known Dick since 1987 and considered him a co-worker and friend. We had many laughs over the years; maybe even when we shouldn't have been laughing. Even in his retirement, I'd be so happy to run into him at the Best Western at lunch or in the store or just on the street, we never missed a beat. My heart is bruised; there will never be another Dick Metcalf. RIP my friend, and keep smiling, I'll smile right back at you.

Dick Welcomed me to the department almost 30 years ago. Larger than life, he took alot of time to mentor a kid who felt very out of place at St. Lawrence. Dick and Kathy are the epitome of what it means to be a Laurentian and threw a great Christmas party!!! RIP Coach

I served with Dick on the Professional Standards Committee where I appreciated his good judgment and kindness. He was a mentor to me. We became friends, as I did with Kathy as well when my daughter joined her early childhood education program. Certainly they gave so much to SLU and to Canton.

I remember when Dick Metcalf served as an Interim Director of Admissions. It was a pleasure to work with him. He was super nice and had a great sense of humor. Nothing ever flustered him. SLU is all about the people and he was definitely a great one.
