Julia Regan

Dear Laurentian Community,

I write to share the sad news that Julia “Julie” Regan, a longtime member of the St. Lawrence University staff, passed away on June 16 at the age of 85.

Born in South Colton, New York, on September 10, 1939, Julie was a lifelong North Country resident. After graduating from Colton-Pierrepont Central School, she earned high honors at Albany Business College and began her career with the New York Telephone Company.

Julie joined the St. Lawrence University staff in 1962 as an executive secretary, where she dedicated nearly four decades of service until her retirement in 2002. She formed lifelong friendships at the University and was known to close colleagues and friends as a quiet confidant with quick-witted humor.

Julie was devoted to her family, especially her nieces and nephews, and loved spending time with them. She possessed a quiet yet fierce independence, which fueled her many adventures traveling throughout the United States, Canada, England, and Ireland. She was an avid reader, a dedicated member of St. Paul’s and St. Patrick’s Churches, and she actively participated in organizations such as the St. Lawrence County Historical Association, the Colton Historical Society, the Red Hat Society, and several local senior citizens groups.

We share our heartfelt condolences with Julie’s family, including her sister, Patricia Barbalich of Colton; her niece, Erin (Fred) Toomey; and her nephews, Sean (Liza) Regan and Jeff Regan. We are grateful for Julie’s years of devoted service to St. Lawrence and for the warmth and friendship she shared with so many members of our community.

Please join us in celebrating Julie’s life by sharing your memories of her on the St. Lawrence University website. You can read the remembrances of others here.

Sincerely,

Kate Morris
