Joyce Hogle
Dear Laurentian Community,
I am writing to share the sad news that Joyce Hogle passed away on March 15 at age 86 with her family at her side. Joyce retired from St. Lawrence in 2000 after 32 years of devoted service in Dining and Catering.
A native of Hopkinton, New York, Joyce was a longtime resident of the Colton area and a graduate of Colton-Pierrepont Central School. She and her husband, Harlow, raised their family in West Pierrepont and later settled on Buck Pond Road. They spent their retirement years enjoying travel and winters in Homosassa, Florida.
Joyce began working at St. Lawrence after raising her four daughters, and she spent her career as a baker and supervisor in our dining services. Colleagues remember her as steady, capable, and skilled at her craft. She was known for her baked goods and for her role in supporting the day-to-day operations that keep a campus community running smoothly.
Outside of work, Joyce kept busy gardening, sewing, camping, and traveling with her family. She was involved in the Skirts and Flirts Square Dancing Club and the Boondockers Snowmobile Club. She also spent time in retirement selling maple products and baked goods at local farmers markets and working briefly in a Florida bakery.
Joyce is survived by her four daughters, 10 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren, as well as by several siblings, extended family members, and close friends. Her husband, Harlow, passed away just a few days before her.
The Laurentian community is grateful for Joyce’s many years of service, and we extend our deepest sympathies to her family and all those in the community who knew her.
Please join us in celebrating Joyce’s life by sharing your memories of her on the St. Lawrence University website. You can read the remembrances of others here.
Sincerely,
Kate Morris
