Erin McCarthy

Erin McCarthy, Ph.D. (she/her) is professor Emerita, speaker, author, philosophical counsellor, mindfulness coach, career and writing coach for academics, and parent of twins. After completing her undergraduate degree in French and Philosophy at Trent University, she went on to complete a doctorate at the University of Ottawa, comparing western and eastern views of the self. 

Professor of philosophy at St. Lawrence from 2000-2023, Erin now divides her time between faculty coaching, mindfulness teaching, occasional university teaching, co-editing a book series and serving on the advisory board of several journals. She’s also currently Director of Humanities for the International Society for Contemplative Research. Her teaching, writing and coaching bring together eastern and western philosophies and practices to cultivate human flourishing, joy, ease and mental health.
