MINUTES OF ST. LAWRENCE UNIVERSITY SAFETY COMMITTEE/
ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON CAMPUS SECURITY HELD VIA ZOOM
ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2024, STARTING AT 800 A.M.
Chairperson: Nick Ormasen, Co-Chair called meeting to order at 0802

New Business:
- Kasarian asked how Shelter in Place Drill went last Friday. Pat said that it was one of the best drills to date. The Student Center occupants were phenomenal. The Alertus system worked well and is almost complete with a few more beacons to hang. CLOSED.
- Suna Emergency Response Plan, available on the University Communications web pages, needs some updating. When updating the Natural Disasters section, increased frequency and intensity of weather emergencies, including heavy rain and high winds should be considered. Pat will share this recommendation with the Emergency Planning Committee. CLOSED.
- Dean updated the committee that the first round of residential fire inspections is almost complete. It has been very positive, overall, no taped or covered smoke heads found. Reminder that if you have a multi-plug in use, it must say surge protector. If not, you are asked to use a power strip instead. CLOSED.
- Pat reported on the Threat Assessment Team (TAM) conference he attended earlier this week in Albany.
- Tara added that they are restructuring to implement strategies according to the National Behavioral Intervention Team Association (NABITA), a behavioral intervention team (BIT) that meets regularly to detect “red flags” in a student or group behavior for better assessment and specific intervention. Old Business:
Golf cart operations – training email was sent out. CLOSED
- Reminder to golf cart operators, sidewalks are for pedestrians, not golf carts.
- The golf cart training policy was updated in 2017 to shift the responsibility of training to the operator’s supervisor.
- In the beginning of the Fall 2024 semester, a link will be sent out to the campus community with the policy and training expectations for golf cart operators.
- Bob Hance will have discussions regarding fleet vehicle updates with Karl Spieker. CLOSED
- Bob Hance will be following up with Kevin Angstadt.
- The track has been repaired. Suna also brought up concern of soft spots on the track, inside lanes 1 & 2. Marcus to check it out and contact the track company. CLOSED.

Future Meetings: The Safety Committee meetings will continue to be the first Friday of the month. starting Dates are 11/1/2024, 12/6/2024, 2/7/2025, 3/7/2025, 4/4/2025, 5/2/2025 and 6/6/2025. Meetings will continue to be held on Zoom.
