MINUTES OF ST. LAWRENCE UNIVERSITY SAFETY COMMITTEE/

ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON CAMPUS SECURITY HELD VIA ZOOM

ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 2024, STARTING AT 800 A.M.

New Business: 

  • Stop signs on Romoda being ignored: Security will patrol the area and conduct vehicle stops when necessary.
  • Appleton hockey parking: The gravel parking lot is very dark and has some construction equipment parked in there as well. Better parking assistance needed. Marcus will investigate converting existing 4-head lighting to LED and installing 6x6 posts for extra LED lighting.
    • Bob and Marcus to provide pricing to Traci for some additional lighting.
    • Suna suggested contacting a couple specific internal employees who may have knowledge of lighting of parking areas for ideas.
    • Existing lighting is all up light vs. downlight.
    • May have to move lighting closer to road and crosswalk.
    • More parking has been created in Newell (D lot)
  • Dean reported on the status of the academic building fire inspections.
    • Extension cords are designed for temporary uses of no more than thirty days.
    • Power strips are approved to use but NOT for microwaves or refrigerators.
    • Fire doors are not to be propped open with door wedges; if you see one, please feel free to close the door.
    • Question of office “fire doors” dividing office spaces. It is okay to prop these open during working hours to get from workstation to workstation but KEEP closed outside of business hours.
  • Ice storm was discussed with some slips and falls reported; talk of delaying classes a short time and keeping to the main roadways vs. shortcuts.

E-bikes

  • There will be a charging port installed between Dana/Piskor and the Student Center; e-bikes are required to be charged outside and NOT in residence halls. This will be added to the Student Handbook in the Fall. CLOSED

Future Meetings: The meetings will continue to be the first Friday of the month from 8:00-9:00 a.m. Future meetings: 3/1/2024, 4/5/2024, 5/3/2024, and 6/7/2024. Meetings will be conducted via Zoom.
