MINUTES OF ST. LAWRENCE UNIVERSITY SAFETY COMMITTEE/

ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON CAMPUS SECURITY HELD VIA ZOOM

ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 6, 2024, STARTING AT 800 A.M.

Chairperson Patrick Gagnon, Co-Chair called meeting to order at 0804

Present: Patrick Gagnon, Co-Chair, Alana Belkevich, Mary Charleston, Acting Secretary, Kasarian Dane, Sharmela Garcia-Martin, Bob Hance, Jim Kozsan, Dean Manley, Stacie Olney-LaPierre, Erik Perry, Ethan Townsend, Stacy Vassar, and Tara Tent

Apologies: Aidan Gallagher, Susan Johnson, Tim Kinch, Steve Richards, Bill Ritchie, Marsha Sawyer, Marcus Sherburne, and Suna Stone

  • Colleen
    • is glad that Dean sent out an email regarding safety cleats, safety shoes, and the accident form.  Staff Development in January if we have any safety information we want to share.
    • Dean
      • gave a reminder regarding safety cleats.
      • Thanked Suna for all of her work on mold remediation.  Suna has been working on all of our basement spaces .
      • Fire Inspections
        • Second round beginning next week for Residential spaces
        • January will be Academic and Facility Buildings
      • Working with Communications currently to make a map of where AED’s are located
    • Pat
      • We had students stranded in Syracuse and Watertown returning from break.  Storm caused delays.  Kudos to transportation for getting all the students back safely.
    • Door Locks
      • Kasarian likes the access control mechanism that was places on the oil painting room and thinks that might be a good solution, would like to see more rooms have that type of access in the Art Studio areas
    • Alana
      • Working with Dean to make St. Lawrence University a HEARTsafe campus
      • SLU EMS will be conducting a CPR class in January or February
    • Karl
      • Has concerns regarding locks on classrooms. Bob will figure out recommendations by next meeting.

Future Meetings: The Safety Committee meetings will continue to be the first Friday of the month.  starting Dates are 2/7/2025, 3/7/2025, 4/4/2025, 5/2/2025 and 6/6/2025. Meetings will continue to be held on Zoom.
