MINUTES OF ST. LAWRENCE UNIVERSITY SAFETY COMMITTEE

ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON CAMPUS SECURITY HELD VIA ZOOM

ON FRIDAY, APRIL 4, 2025, STARTING AT 800 A.M.

Chairperson Patrick Gagnon, Co-Chair called meeting to order at 0801

Present: Nick Ormasen, Co-Chair, Alana Belkevich, Mary Charleston, Kasarian Dane, Jim Kozsan, Dean Manley, Stacie Olney-LaPierre, Susan Johnson, Aidan Gallagher, Suna Stone, Sam Mace, Marsha Sawyer, Bob Hance, Erik Perry, Ethan Townsend and Tara Tent

Apologies: Marcus Sherburne, Tim Kinch, Steve Richards, Stacy Vassar and Bill Ritchie

New Business: 

    Steve Richards – Grates at the Sullivan Student Center need to be fixed; there are “steel pieces sticking up and are causing people to trip. One grate especially bad is at Rear of student center facing Handicap parking area.” Jim Kozsan met with Steve this morning and skilled trades will pull the grates, clean them out and assess what repair, if any, is needed. CLOSED.

  • Mary Charleston – During fire drills this week, she observed overgrowth of shrubs on the handrail on the door facing Payson/Fox Hall causing it to be unusable.  Bob and Jim will bring it to Marcus Sherburne’s attention for trimming/cutting. CLOSED.
  • At the May meeting, Dean Manley will present the Annual Accident Report Summary.

Future Meetings: The Safety Committee meetings will continue to be the first Friday of the month.  Future dates are 5/2/2025 and 6/6/2025. Meetings will continue to be held on Zoom.
