MINUTES OF ST. LAWRENCE UNIVERSITY SAFETY COMMITTEE/

ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON CAMPUS SECURITY HELD VIA ZOOM

ON FRIDAY, APRIL 5, 2024, STARTING AT 800 A.M.

New Business:

  • Solar Eclipse Emergency Plan -  
    • The emergency plan was sent out to the campus community on Thursday, April 4th.
    • Lighting around the quad will be turned off.
    • Romoda Drive will be closed from H lot (Vilas lot) to University Ave from 1:00-6:00 p.m.
    • Guest parking will be in the gravel lot by Appleton Arena and J lot.
    • St. Lawrence County expects a large influx of visitors and have been holding preparation meetings for the last two weeks.
    • Security will have Emergency Operations set up with staff from Security, Residence Life, Facilities Operations, EH&S and Communications.
    • Buildings will be locked down but accessible by card access for community members.
    • Watertown is expecting 175,000 people and the NYSP will be advising the County EOC who in turn will advise us of any major influx of people heading to St. Lawrence County.  DOT cameras will be monitoring traffic exiting I81 heading North to provide these updates.
  • Annual review and approval of the Pesticide Application Plan -
    • Marcus Sherburne shared the plan; nothing was applied in 2023.
    • 2024 they will be applying pesticides to athletic fields only.
  • In May or June, Dean will share the annual accident report with the committee.

Future Meetings: The meetings will continue to be the first Friday of the month from 8:00-9:00 a.m.  Future meetings: 5/3/2024, and 6/7/2024. Meetings will be conducted via Zoom.
