Students interested in majoring in Finance should take ECON 100 as early as possible, preferably during their first year. Additionally, students interested in Finance should take FIN 211 (Introduction to Finance) by the end of their third semester on campus. This course will count as a 200 level elective toward the major.
To declare the major, a student must have:
- At least a 2.0 university cumulative average and at least a 2.0 cumulative average in courses that count towards the finance major.
-
At least a 2.0 grade in ECON 251 and/or 252, if completed. These courses must be taken at St. Lawrence University before the end of the junior year. Students who took ECON 251 or 252 pass/fail cannot declare the major, as a "P" (pass) does not meet the 2.0 requirement.
These conditions must be maintained to continue in the major.

Students are encouraged to complete either an internship, community-based learning experience, abroad experience, or senior year independent research in support of their major.
