University Theatre Announces THE FOUNDRY: a one-act play festival
University Theatre is currently soliciting plays for its inaugural one-act festival set to debut in March 2027.
THE FOUNDRY is a one-act festival that will feature plays by professional playwrights alongside plays by St. Lawrence students and possibly even high school students.
According to festival organizer Dr. Angie Sweigart-Gallagher, the goals for the festival are twofold: "We want to create opportunities for more of our students to get involved in theatrical production here at SLU, but we also hope students interested in playwrighting or screenwriting will benefit from interacting with a professional playwright and by seeing their own work produced."
In addition to having their plays produced, professional playwrights will travel to Canton in March to facilitate workshops and class visits with St. Lawrence students. Stipends and travel for professional playwrights will be supported by an Arts Collaborative Grant.
"We are excited that the Arts Collaborative grant will allow us to provide meaningful stipends to our professional guests, but that we will also be able to provide stipends for student playwrights," Sweigart-Gallagher says.
Playwrights with questions can reach out directly to Dr. Angie Sweigart-Gallagher at asweigart@stlawu.edu
The professional playwright submission deadline is November 1st. Interested professional playwrights can submit their work here.
