Laurentians in Residence highlights the power of the Laurentian network through alumni and student interactions during a two-day in-residence program. Each semester Laurentian leaders are invited to campus to connect with students through classroom presentations, networking and informal conversations, and an interactive career panel discussion. This spring, five young alumni will be on campus on March 7th and 8th showcasing the power of connections, a priority in The Campaign for Every Laurentian, as they speak with students about their career paths, share experiences and advice, and offer insight into life after St. Lawrence.
This program is sponsored, in part, by the Alumni Executive Council, and is a collaboration between University Advancement, Career Services, and the Student Alumni Association.
Panelist Biographies
ANDY CHAN '14
Product Manager, Infinia ML
Andy Chan is a Product Manager at Infinia ML, a machine learning startup spun out of Duke University’s research lab. He currently leads the design, development, and execution of the company’s artificial intelligence strategies. Prior to Infinia ML, Andy was a Senior Product Manager at Avalara and helped the company go public in June 2018.
Andy graduated from St. Lawrence with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. After graduation, he moved to Cary, NC and completed a Master of Science in Analytics at Johns Hopkins University. He is currently pursuing a MBA at Duke University.
While at St. Lawrence, Andy was Vice President of the Investment Club, a Teaching Assistant for the Economics Department, and an Alto Sax player for the SLU Funk Revue. Highlights of his SLU experience include opening for Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, interning with Morgan Stanley during the NYC Semester, and meeting his wife Sam. His greatest influences while at SLU were Cynthia Bansak (Professor of Economics), Bob Durocher (Men’s Soccer Coach), Larry Boyette (SLU Funk), and Jenny Hansen (FYP/Professor of Philosophy).
TAYLOR ENGLE '12
Veterinarian, Four Star Veterinary Service
Dr. Taylor Engle is a practicing veterinarian and research consultant for Four Star Veterinary Service. He works predominantly with swine, poultry, and cattle focusing on population health, research and management, as well as public health. In addition, he is an Adjunct Professor at Wright State University teaching in the Animal Science Department.
Throughout his academic career, Taylor has worked collaboratively with wildlife veterinarians, geneticists, and conservationists on several projects involving wildlife veterinary medicine and ecology. Some of these projects include moose-habitat relationships and seasonal nutritional requirements in Alaska and the Yukon Territory, black bear metabolic demands and hibernation ecology, as well as genetic identification and migrational tracking in Lemon and Tiger sharks in the Bimini, Bahamas.
His academic journey began at St. Lawrence in 2008 where he double majored in Biology and Music, was a 4-year member of the NCAA baseball team, a member of the Chemical Society, and Jazz band. During the summer of his sophomore year, he participated in St. Lawrence’s summer abroad program in Kenya. After graduating from St. Lawrence in 2012, Taylor earned his Master of Science degree from the University of Nebraska in Animal Science and Genetics where he was a graduate research assistant for the Animal Science Department. While at Nebraska, his research and thesis resulted in several publications in the area of animal science and genetics. Upon completion of his M.S. degree, he began his veterinary studies at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 2018 with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine.
Taylor also served as a graduate assistant for both the University of Nebraska and Virginia Tech baseball teams.
DYMON LEWIS '11
Program Manager, Harvard Business Publishing
Dymon Lewis is a Program Manager at Harvard Business Publishing, where she is responsible for delivering leadership development programs designed in partnership with Fortune 500 companies. She has worked with clients in a variety of industries including multinational financial services, international food conglomerates, and global play and entertainment.
Dymon graduated from St. Lawrence in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English-Writing with a focus in Creative Writing and a minor in Performance & Communication Arts. While at St. Lawrence, Dymon was a Presidential Diversity Scholar and during her junior year received the Kirk Douglas Scholarship. She was a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, Phi Beta Kappa, and served as the vice-president of the Irving Bacheller Society chapter of Sigma Tau Delta. She spent the first semester of her junior year studying abroad in London. Dymon also participated in several theatre productions including the lead role of Lady Olivia in Twelfth Night. She enjoyed working at Calling All Saints all four years at SLU, and working as an Admissions Ambassador for three years.
Dymon relocated to Boston from New York to study at Emerson College. She graduated from Emerson College in 2014 with a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. Other than a brief relocation to the west coast to participate in Emerson’s prestigious LA semester, she has remained in Boston. She still roots for the Yankees.
LALITA PRIYAMVADA '12
ORISE Postdoctoral Fellow, Centers for Disease Control
Lalita Priyamvada is currently an ORISE Postdoctoral Fellow working in the Poxvirus and Rabies Branch at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). As a postdoctoral scientist, Lalita splits her time in the laboratory between different projects centered on poxvirus and rabies viral pathogenesis, diagnostics and antiviral development.
Originally, from New Delhi, India, Lalita graduated from St. Lawrence in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. After graduation, she moved to Atlanta, GA to pursue a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at Emory University. Lalita discovered her desire to pursue a research career while at St. Lawrence, and spent two years doing research under the co-mentorship of Dr. Alexander Schreiber and Dr. Karin Heckman.
Outside the classroom (or lab), Lalita stayed busy organizing events for the SLU international student community as President of the ASIA club and International House (I-House) Coordinator. She also served as an Admissions Ambassador and International Student Orientation Leader for three years, and participated in the Kenya Summer Program after her sophomore year. Lalita was inducted into Beta Beta Beta, Omicron Delta Kappa and Phi Beta Kappa and graduated magna cum laude.
KATIE SHOREY '10
Community and Business Development, People's United Bank
Katie Shorey works for People's United Bank where she focuses on community and business development. In this role, she determines strategic sponsorship initiatives, manages internal and external events, and cultivates partnerships with organizations and individuals in Maine. She also serves as a liaison for the People’s United Community Foundation, which provides grants to local nonprofits. Prior to joining the bank, Katie was the corporate relations manager for the Center for Safe Internet Pharmacies – a White House initiative that formed a coalition of technology companies to help protect consumers from illegitimate drugs online. She also served as Program Manager for Clifton Consulting LLC where she created professional development trainings and management leadership tools for clients, and she was formerly a Program Associate for the Partnership for Public Service supporting the Excellence in Government Fellows Program within the Center for Government Leadership.
Katie currently resides in Westbrook, Maine and is active in economic development initiatives to foster innovation and entrepreneurship across the state. She proudly serves as President and chairwoman of Startup Maine, a 501C3 organization with the mission of inspiring and elevating entrepreneurs. She is a member of Maine Accelerates Growth, a collaborative network of organizations and individuals propelling entrepreneurship and economic development. Lastly, Katie serves on the advisory committee for Maine Women Magazine, and is a certified SCORE mentor and workshop facilitator.
Katie participated in the Transforming Communities program at American University in 2008, spent her senior fall semester working on Capitol Hill for Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), and she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government from St. Lawrence University in 2010. Before returning to her home state of Maine, Katie lived in Washington, DC and San Francisco, CA.
