In Memory: Iris Waugh

Dear Laurentian community,

I write today with the sad news that Iris Waugh has died. Before retiring in 2002, she worked for nearly 30 years on campus in dining services, then in facilities operations as a housekeeper.

Iris was born in Pierrepont, New York in 1939 and went to school in the North Country. She married Henry Waugh at his family’s home in Hermon in 1957. Iris is survived by Henry, and many other family members, including children, great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

Her family recalls that Iris enjoyed attending her grandchildren's sporting events and Saints hockey games. She loved her dog, bird-watching, and going for Sunday rides. She also loved to get out and travel, provided that she wasn't alone and didn't go too far. She liked to be back home so she could sleep in her own bed.

As we grieve the loss of our friend and colleague, we are grateful to Iris for all she has done for our community. She served this University by nurturing Laurentians.

Please join us in celebrating Iris’s life by sharing your memories of her on the St. Lawrence University website. You can read the remembrances of others here.

Sincerely,

Kate Morris
