Providing Students Access to a Canvas Course to Satisfy an Incomplete

After a term ends, by default, all students will retain Read Only access to their Canvas course sites. In some cases, this level of access may be sufficient for students to satisfy an incomplete. Note: It may be necessary to go to Courses > All Courses to locate and access a course from a past term. Clicking the Star to Favorite that course will make it appear in one's Dashboard If an instructor needs a specific student, or set of students, to have the ability to engage fully with the course materials (submit Assignments, take Quizzes, etc), a New Section will need to be added to the course…

Printing from Canvas and/or Perusall

When viewing a PDF document in Canvas or Perusall, it is often not possible to print the document directly from your web browser. In those cases, if you first download the document and then open it on your computer, your default PDF viewer should allow for printing. If not, try a different PDF viewer such as Adobe Reader. Note: if Downloading from Perusal is not possible, you may need to speak to your instructor about their enabling downloading in the settings for that document. Or, submit a Service Request and we will reach out to the instructor.

Send Zoom Recordings to Panopto

Zoom meetings recorded to the cloud can automatically be moved to a Meeting Recordings folder in your personal folder (My Folder) in Panopto. Once the recording is processed on Panopto, recordings can be moved to other Panopto folders (e.g., your Canvas course folder if you have enabled the tool) and the original recording on Zoom will be deleted. Enable Zoom + Panopto Integration Once you have signed in to Panopto at least once (either directly or via Canvas), submit a service request for an Educational Technologist to set up this integration for you. Access Zoom Recordings from Panopto Log…

Managing Participants on Canvas

Overview Students are automatically enrolled in Canvas courses as it is synchronized with the student registration system. This article explains how instructors can manually (if needed) add participants to their site. Adding Participants This process can be used to add TAs, course guests and others who need site access. And, during the Add/Drop period, since there can be a delay from the time an Add is processed through the registrar's office and then fed to Canvas (a once daily process), we recommend that faculty use this process to add those students to their Canvas site manually to ensure…

Taking a "Post'Em" approach in Canvas

If you used Post'Em in Sakai and want to take a similar approach in Canvas, check out the ability to Export and Import from the Canvas Grades tool. Here are a few things to keep in mind: If you will be doing your Overall Course Grade calculations in Excel, you will want to: Create a "no submission" Assignment that you will use for that Overall Course Grade (do not use 'Final Grade' since Canvas already keeps track of a Final Grade and you can't reuse that term) Weight all Assignments/Groups in Canvas at 0% and your "Overall Course Grade" at 100% so that Canvas' Final Grade calculation is…

Tips for Taking Online Tests

Check and verify you have a reliable Internet connection If you do use Wi-Fi, try to use a private/home network and avoid using busy public Wi-Fi areas If possible, try to reduce the number of devices accessing the same Wi-Fi network when you are taking the assessment Depending on your network, using a wired connection to your router may provide a more reliable connection If you do lose network access while taking a test and there is still time left to complete it, return to the course site and go back into the test. If saved, you should be able to pick up close to where you left off if the…
