    St. Lawrence Climbs Even Higher in The Princeton Review Rankings for Alumni Network, Internships, and Impact

    The Princeton Review named St. Lawrence to its list of “Best Value Colleges” for 2024, noting its high return on investment for students and recent grads. The University also ascended in several rankings categories, coming in at No. 2 on “Top 20 Best Private School Alumni Networks,” No. 5 on “Top 20 Best Private Schools for Internships,” and No. 9 on “Best Schools for Making an Impact.”

    Exhibition: Change Is a More Accurate Measure of Time Photographs by Mark Klett, SLU class of 1974

    - Richard F. Brush Art Gallery This exhibition is presented in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Mark Klett’s graduation from St. Lawrence University in 1974. The show features 12 photographs from "El Camino del Diablo," a project based on a journey by a young mining engineer, Raphael Pumpelly, through Arizona and Mexico in 1861 on “the road of the devil.”

    Exhibition: Our Place in the Scheme of Things

    - Richard F. Brush Art Gallery This exhibition underscores the essential elements of the environment — water, air, earth — and their degradation caused by storms, fire, and drought often brought about by human pursuits. Photographs and videos on display reflect the relationship between the physical and metaphysical, serving as a spiritual, biophilic statement that highlights the environmental challenges that contemporary societies confront.

    English Professor’s New Book Reinterprets African American Novels

    Associate Professor of English Alvin J. Henry has published a new book reinterpreting African American novels and identifying a new model of Black queer selfhood. “Black Queer Flesh” was published by the University of Minnesota Press, which describes it as “an original and necessary contribution to Black literary studies, offering new ways to understand and appreciate the canonical texts and far more.”

    Aimee Baker, Writers Series Guest: Recording Now Available

    The St. Lawrence University Writers Series welcomed poet Aimée Baker '04 via on Thursday, Sept. 16. Baker's debut poetry collection, Doe, dramatizes the untold stories of missing and unidentified women across the United States and was selected as the winner of the 2016 Akron Prize. The recording of the event is now available for viewing.

    The Alexander String Quartet

    - The Alexander String Quartet returns to St. Lawrence for a four-day residency that will include two virtual performances with the Laurentian Singers on Wednesday, Oct. 27, at noon, and on Thursday, Oct. 28, at 8 p.m. These performances are open to the public via livestream.

    Saints Teams Secure Liberty League Playoff Spots; Fall Sports Continue

    Saints Field Hockey defeated Union College 6-2 on Sunday, securing a spot in the Liberty League playoffs while Saints Volleyball swept Union College 3-0 on Saturday to qualify for the Liberty League Tournament for the second straight season. The wins continued with Women's Soccer defeating Skidmore College 2-1 on the road while Men’s Soccer defeated Skidmore College 3-2 at home on Saturday. On Friday, Women's Hockey swept RIT 3-0 at home while Volleyball beat Skidmore College 3-0 on the road. Throughout the weekend, several members of the men's and women's swimming and diving teams emerged victorious in their individual races during their respective season openers against Skidmore College. Last week, Esports beat Moravian University 2 - 0 and Concord University 3-0 while women’s soccer defeated SUNY Canton 6-0.

    Purple Week

    As part of this year's Purple Week, The Advocates and other student advocacy groups organized powerful events on campus to raise awareness and show support for domestic and sexual violence survivors. On Tuesday Oct. 19, students came together for a candlelight vigil on the Brush Family Quad after listening to survivors courageously speak as part of “Take Back the Night.”

    St. Lawrence student-athletes and alumni will represent Teams U.S.A., Canada, Denmark, and China as they compete for gold in women's ice hockey, skiing, and skeleton racing at the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, China.     Saints Women's Squash Claim Liberty League Championships; Winter Sports Continue

    Saints Women’s Squash claimed the Liberty League Championship this weekend after dominating Vassar 9-0, William Smith 6-3, and Bard 9-0. The tournament championship win is the fourth for the Saints. Women’s Ice Hockey topped Quinnipiac 5-1 on Sunday and 2-1 on Saturday after Lucy Morgan ’23 recorded her ninth career shutout and Suyeon Eom ’24 scored her first collegiate goal during the team’s 3-0 win over Princeton earlier in the week. Men’s Ice Hockey battled to a 1-1 tie with Brown on Saturday after defeating Yale 2-1 in overtime on Friday. The weekend wins continued with Saints Women’s Basketball topping William Smith 69-48 and RIT 69-61 while Men’s Basketball defeated Hobart 66-46 and RIT 77-86.  During the Liberty League Championship weekend, Men’s Squash beat Hobart 8-1, Bard 9-0, and Vassar 9-0 but the University of Rochester ultimately secured the Liberty League title. At the Bomber Invitational, Men’s Track and Field won the two-team distance medley relay while Timothy Boyce ’25 won the mile and Women’s Track and Field’s Katherine Sheehy ’23 won the 5,000 meters.     St. Lawrence University has received a $1 million gift from Barbara Christie ’76 to create an endowment to permanently fund the position of the director of the Laurentian Singers and enhance the tradition of choral excellence at St. Lawrence University.

    Saints Lax Tops Competition, Winter Seasons Wrap

    The Scarlet and Brown wrapped up the winter season and are headed into the spring with a bang! On Saturday, Saints Men's lacrosse beat Nazareth 16-11 on North Country Field after dominating SUNY Geneseo 15-6 last week while the women's team topped SUNY Geneseo 14-10 in its season opener. During the NCAA Skiing Championships, Emma Strack posted the best Nordic result for the Saints since 2012.     Peterson '24 Secures Bronze at 2023 Para Nordic World Championships; Skating Saints Sweep Route 11 Rival

    It was a great weekend to be a Saint! During the 2023 Para Nordic World Championships Saints Nordic skier Sydney Peterson ’24 secured two bronze medals in the women’s standing 10km and the standing sprint. This marks the second high-stakes competition appearance for Sydney who secured bronze, silver, and gold medals at the 2022 Beijing Paralympic Games. Over the weekend, the Skating Saints dominated Clarkson University in back-to-back matchups with a 4-2 win over the Knights at Cheel Arena on Saturday and a 4-2 home ice win on Friday as women's ice hockey defeated Brown 6-1 on the road. The wins for the Scarlet and Brown continued with men's basketball beating Bard 60-55 after defeating Vassar 57-49 while women's basketball beat Bard 79-34, and men's squash defeated Colby 6-3. Saints women's swimming and diving team dominated Utica 194-60 while the men's team beat Utica 95-71 in their final meet before the Liberty League Championships. The women's track and field team won eight events to defend its Saints Indoor Invitational while Zachary Jaworski '25 won both throwing events, and Nick Lyndaker '26 won the 800 meters and the mile to lead the men's team. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

    Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

    Students and community members recently gathered in Gunnison Memorial Chapel to celebrate Dr. King’s legacy during the annual Martin Luther King Jr. service. Leading with the theme, “It starts with me—the call to transform,” Rev. Dr. Shaun Whitehead was joined by President Kate Morris, University choirs, and members of the Black Laurentian Initiative, as they took the stage through spiritual songs, words of reflection, and moving performances.     Sarath Novas ’23 is currently abroad in London and participating in a work placement with Time Out London, a global media and hospitality business writing about events, food, and attractions in cities around the world.     Saints Shatter Records; Head to Liberty League Championships

    The Saints track and field teams dominated the Intercollegiate Twilight Meet as Kimberly Merchant ’22 set a program record in the discus and several Saints secured top spots in their competitions as they head into the Liberty League Championships this weekend. Women’s lacrosse is headed to the Liberty Leagues after defeating RIT 21-14 to set a new program record for wins in a season and securing a 16-13 victory over Nazareth while men’s tennis beat Ithaca 6-3 after dominating SUNY Oswego 9-0 on the road. Saints Baseball defeated Skidmore 15-5 and 18-8 in a doubleheader after securing a 22-6 win over SUNY Canton 22-6 earlier in the week.     Weekend Wins and Broken Records for the Saints, Spring Sports Continue

    Over the weekend, both the men's and women's tennis teams celebrated a Senior Day sweep by shutting out Bard College 9-0. The wins for the Saints continued with baseball defeating Bard 16-6, softball shutting out Skidmore 3-0, men's lacrosse defeating Vassar 17-12, and women's lacrosse beating RPI 13-12. Men's golf topped Clarkson 303-312 in a single round while Mary Grace McCann '25 claimed the top spot for the women's golf team at the Martin and Wallace Invite in Cortland. During the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic, Matt Abell '23 broke the 3,000-meter steeplechase record that has stood since 1987 to lead the men's track and field team. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

    2022 Kathryn Fraser Mackay Memorial Lecture with guest, Dr. Anthony Pinn

    - Sykes Commons Anthony B. Pinn received his BA from Columbia University, Master of Divinity, and Ph.D. in the study of religion from Harvard University. His research interests include religion and culture; humanism; and hip-hop culture. Pinn is the author/editor of over 35 books, including "Terror and Triumph: The Nature of Black Religion" and "The New Disciples."

    World Premiere of How Did We Get Here? An American Phenomenon

    - Gulick Theatre, Noble Center "How Did We Get Here?" is a collection of stories of Black people who display the racial wealth gap through their experiences living in New York City, Philadelphia, and Trenton. The film is created by Sid Spencer '22 and Kaleb Davis '22.

    Saints Dominate Spring Break Competitions

    The scarlet and brown dominated their spring break competitions as Saints baseball secured wins over Fredonia (15-4), Hamilton (4-2),  Muhlenberg (21-6), and Thomas College (5-4, 6-1) while softball defeated Franklin & Marshall (10-3, 5-3) and Utica (2-6, 4-3). Women’s lacrosse topped Rochester 19-7 in the Liberty League opener after defeating Brockport 15-12 and Plattsburgh 18-7 while men’s lacrosse beat SUNY Cortland 14-8 and Western New England University 12-10. Men’s tennis defeated Bethel 7-2 after securing an 8-1 win over St. Scholastica at the UTSA National Campus while women’s tennis dominated New Paltz 8-1 after beating St. Scholastica 6-3. Women's swimming and diving's Maggie Wenger ’24 competed in several events at the NCAA Championships as Esports secured a 1-0 win over the University of Ottawa in a NACA Conference matchup. Women’s ice hockey’s Lucy Morgan ’23 was named a CCM/AHCA All-American for the 2021-22 season, Sanna Koivumäki ’22 of the women’s squash team has been selected to compete for her home country of Finland in the 2022 European Team Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands, and Lewis Anderson ’25 was named Second Team All-American by the College Squash Association. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

    Richard F. Brush Art Gallery to Present Wool and Water Exhibition

    - Richard F. Brush Art Gallery Explore the Wool and Water exhibition on display at the Richard F. Brush Art Gallery until April 12. The exhibition is a collaborative data-art project that blends fiber art with scientific information to create visual representations of changing water quality conditions in New York State’s Adirondack Mountains and neighboring Lake Champlain Basin.

    Saints Basketball, Your Liberty League Champions!

    It was an electric Sunday afternoon in Burkman as the Saints men’s basketball team dominated RPI 50-42 in overtime to secure the Liberty League championship. In a standing-room-only crowd, the Scarlet and Brown extended their winning streak to eight and improve to 19-7 after defeating Hobart 80-78 in the semifinals on Friday. The Saints will go on to compete in the NCAA tournament. The weekend wins continued with men's ice hockey shutting out Dartmouth 2-0 at Appleton to secure the fourth seed in the ECAC Tournament while women's hockey beat Quinnipiac 3-2 to conclude its season. Men's squash defeated Middlebury and MIT 5-4 during the Semifinal round of the Summers Cup at the CSA Team Nationals while Erik Geier '23 defended his Liberty League title in the 60-meter hurdles and broke a decade-old school record during the championship meet in Rochester. In recognition of their excellence in the classroom, several winter sport student-athletes earned Liberty League All-Academic honors.     SLU Connect—Washington, D.C. linked dozens of alumni, parents, and friends with students to network and explore different career opportunities in the D.C. area. Students attended a panel discussion at the U.S. Department of State, toured sites including the Capitol Building and World Bank, participated in roundtable discussions with industry experts, and much more!     Saints Swim to Victory; Seasons Continue in Full Force

    Saints women's swimming and diving dominated the competition this weekend. During a dual meet on Sunday, Maggie Wenger '24 and Katie Taberski '25 each won two events to lead the team to a 137-90 win over Saints Michael's while first-year Kevin Euyoque won the 200-meter butterfly for the men's team. Fiona Reiner '24, Lulu Rauch '25, Laura Bolduc '24, and Maggie Wenger '24 broke the Frank and Lee Augsbury Pool record in the 800-yard freestyle relay to lead the team to a 159-55 win over SUNY Potsdam on Friday. The wins for the Scarlet and Brown continued with men's squash securing a 7-2 win over the No. 26 Naval Academy while women's basketball defeated William Smith 99-84 and RIT 77-67 as the men's team beat RIT 69-64. During the Middlebury Winter Classic,  Michael Skutt '24 won the 3K and Eric Geier '23 won his 3rd straight 60-meter hurdles and Katherine Sheehy '23 won the 5,000 meters to lead the women's team. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.
