    Michael Petroni '12, a Ph.D. candidate at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF), lead a team of researchers on a study that links levels of Hazardous Air Pollutants to COVID-19 mortality rates. It has the potential to inform pollution standards and protect vulnerable populations across the country.

    Brenda Papineau Named St. Lawrence University's Director of Native American Affairs

    St. Lawrence University has named Brenda Papineau director of Native American Affairs. Papineau, a member of the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe, graduated from St. Lawrence with a bachelor’s degree in sociology in 2002, a master’s in counseling and human development in 2006, and a master’s in educational leadership in 2015.

    Each One Inspired: Haudenosaunee Art Across the Homelands from the New York State Museum

    - Richard F. Brush Art Gallery The St. Lawrence University Richard F. Brush Art Gallery will present an exhibition showcasing the artwork of 53 contemporary artworks by Haudenosaunee artists from all six Haudenosaunee Nations beginning Monday, Oct. 17 through Saturday, Dec. 10.

    Weekend Victories for the Saints

    Over the weekend, Skating Saints forward Greg Lapointe '25 scored a hat trick for a four-goal weekend as three other Saints tallied double-digit points during a 5-4 victory over Princeton University. The wins continued with Maggie Wenger winning 100 and 200 freestyles in a loaded Don Richards Swim Invite at RIT.  During the Saints Track and Field Holiday Relays, the women's team won the distance medley relay while the men's team won six events to capture the team title in the season opener. Women's basketball secured a 58-50 victory over Union and  men's basketball defeated Union 74-69 as women's ice hockey skated to a 4-2 victory over Dartmouth.     Saints Shutout the Competition

    Field Hockey: Senior Sydney LeClair opened the scoring and senior Caroline Hamilton netted the go-ahead goal as St. Lawrence used a second-half surge to earn a 2-1 Liberty League win over Union on Sunday at Hall-Leet Stadium. Senior Elizabeth Walsh posted 19 saves over the week, earning Liberty League Defensive Player of the Week honors.

    Women’s Soccer: Junior Sydney Keenan scored early and junior goalkeeper Zoe Davenport posted a clean sheet as St. Lawrence earned a 1–0 Liberty League road win over RIT. With nine league points, the Saints sit fifth, two points ahead of RIT and four ahead of Ithaca and RPI for the final playoff spot.

    Women’s Hockey: First collegiate goals from first-years Meghan Crowley and Brooke Mulvihill, plus an empty netter from graduate student Alexa Davis and a shutout by junior goalie Kassidy Lawrence, powered No. 14 St. Lawrence to a 3-0 win over RIT to earn a weekend split.

    A Day in the Life of an NYC Intern!

    Navya Aggarwal ’26, a double-major in business and economics, is spending the first half of her senior year interning at Neuberger Berman in New York City. The biggest challenge, she says, is also the best part—that is, finding balance  between her professional, academic, and personal life.     St. Lawrence Students Contribute to U.S. Foreign Policy through Diplomacy Lab

    This fall, six students partnered with senior leadership of the Europe and Eurasian Affairs program at the Foreign Service Institute of the U.S. State Department. Under the guidance of Dr. Mert Kartal, political science students investigated the impact of immigration on the rise of far-right populism in European Union member countries.

    Taming Trash: Students Learn About Waste Management

    This semester, students in the Taming Trash course, taught by Dr. Lori Clark explored waste management through hands-on experiences. The class visited the St. Lawrence compost site, the Cornell Cooperative Extension Anaerobic Digester, and the Development Authority of the North Country Materials Management Facility.

    Saints Earn All-Region Accolades

    • Football: Senior captain and tight-end Oskar Baldwin earned Division 3, Third-Team All-Region honors for Region II. Baldwin, who also earned First-Team All-Liberty League accolades, played in all nine games for the Saints this season and led the team in receptions with 40 catches for 491 yards, averaging 47.89 yards per game.
    • Men’s Soccer: Seniors George Charalambous and Max Mogul, along with sophomore Henry Brown, earned All-Region III Second Team honors for their play this season. Brown, who was named the Liberty League Player of the Year, and earned First Team All-League, emerged as the league's top player this season.
    • Women’s Soccer: Senior captain defender Mia Cence earned All-Region III Third Team honors for her play this season. Cence is the first Saint to be named All-Region since Julia Mulhern '20 and Hannah Arment '20, who earned First Team nods in 2019. Cence, who was a Second Team All-Liberty League selection, played in 15 games this past season and started in 14 of them. The defender was a difference maker on the backline helping the team to a 1.18 team goals against average and five clean sheets.
