NSF Grant Supports St. Lawrence Climate Research

St. Lawrence received three NSF grants this year. A professor and student will use a $78,872 grant to travel—twice—to the Arctic’s Bering Sea Region and study the traditional ecological knowledge of the Siberian Yupik tribe.

New York Six Receives $1.5 Million Mellon Foundation Grant

The New York Six Liberal Arts Consortium, which includes St. Lawrence University, has been awarded a $1.5 million grant by the Mellon Foundation to create the NY6 Mellon Academic Leadership Fellows Program, a three-year program to provide an intensive leadership experience for faculty in the humanities who aspire to academic leadership roles.

The Support and Care of Carefree Black Girls

Sealina Marryshow ’22, president of Carefree Black Girls, wants students to know the club is a welcoming and supportive space for women of color and allies. This spring, they utilized campus resources to help address the mental health needs of their peers.

A Nose for Conservation

As part of a six-week summer research project, Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology Kristine Hoffman, Julia Sirois ’23, and Newt, a labrador trained to detect several species of turtles, are scouring the Rhode Island landscape to find out how many of less common species of turtles are living there.
