    What’s at Stake: Alumni, Faculty Publish Research on Climate Change and Winter Sports in the North Country

    Winter in the North Country is synonymous with outdoor activities like pond hockey and cross country skiing. In a collaborative research article recently published in The Adirondack Journal of Environmental Studies, two faculty members and three St. Lawrence alumni explore how carbon emissions and climate change could affect these cold-weather traditions.

    Women's Basketball Continues Unbeaten Streak

    In a battle of the last two teams undefeated in Liberty League conference play, Saints Women's Basketball defeated Vassar 99-81 on the road on Saturday to improve to 10-0. Men’s Basketball secured a 68-61win over Bard on Friday after kicking off the new year with a 67-60 victory over Elmira.  Last week, several winter sports schedules were adjusted due to health and COVID-19 safety protocols. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

    St. Lawrence Announces $500,000 Gift to Fund the Ken Okoth Black American Music Project

    Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, St. Lawrence will honor the life and impact of a beloved Laurentian with the Ken Okoth ’01 Black American Music Project, which celebrates Black music history through visual displays, lectures, seminars, and live performances.

    - Various Celebrate World Languages Week beginning Monday, March 21 through Saturday, March 26 with a series of events hosted by the Language Resource Center, International Student Services, the Department of World Languages, Cultures, and Media, and the Center for International and Intercultural Studies.

    Saints Dominate in Florida; Conclude Winter Seasons

    Several Saints are dominating the competition in on-the-road matchups in Florida. Women’s tennis defeated Coe College 6-3 as softball beat Macalester 1-0 and New Paltz 8-3, and baseball swept Colby-Sawyer 2-1 and 8-3. Women’s lacrosse is on a winning streak after defeating Oswego 18-7 at home and Saint Michael’s 13-6 on the road while men’s lacrosse dominated SUNY Geneseo 20-6 and Nazareth 16-7. Timmy Boyce ’25 set a programmatic indoor record in the 800m at the NCAA DIII Track and Field Championships and the Women’s Hockey Commissioners Association announced that Lucy Morgan ’23 is a finalist for the Women’s Hockey Goalie of the Year Award. The Liberty League named squash players Lewis Anderson '25 Performer of the Year and Anannya Morey '25 Co-Rookie of the Year while tapping several squash players for the All-Liberty League Team and naming Scott Denne and Jamie Oakley Coaching Staff of the Year. The Skating Saints concluded its season after falling to Quinnipiac in the ECAC Quarterfinals while Alpine skiing’s Ava Mattson ’22 and Nordic skiing’s Brian Beyerbach '23 and Emma Strack '25 wrapped up their seasons at the NCAA Championships in Utah.     Peterson '24, Team USA Win Gold in Mixed Relay Race

    Sydney Peterson '24 and Team U.S.A. won its first-ever mixed relay gold medal to close out the cross-country competition at the Paralympic Winter Games Beijing 2022. This is the third Paralympic medal for Sydney, who claimed bronze in women's free technique standing and silver in women's long-distance classical technique during her Paralympic Winter Games debut.     Faculty and Staff Honored, Awarded Promotions at Annual Convocation Ceremony

    To mark the beginning of a new academic year and celebrate the contributions of all members of the St. Lawrence community, the University honored several employees with awards for their outstanding service and recognized a number of faculty who earned tenure and promotions during their annual Convocation event. The ceremony was held outside in the Herring-Cole Grove on Wednesday, August 25.

    St. Lawrence Welcomes Class of 2026

    The Class of 2026 are leaders in and out of the classroom. They’re artists and performers, entrepreneurs, athletes, and advocates. Even before they matriculated on August 21, 2022, they set the bar high for future Laurentians. They came to St. Lawrence with a cumulative four-year GPA of 92.3—a record for an incoming class.

    Financing the Future

    Earlier this year, St. Lawrence University received its largest George I. Alden Trust grant award to create a new, state-of-the-art Bloomberg Finance Lab in Owen D. Young Library (ODY) in support of the new finance major.

    Laurentians Inspire: Alaska Boat Captain Casts a Net on Sustainability

    This summer Jessica Normandeau ’15 set sail on her newest business venture: captain of a 32-foot vessel in Bristol Bay, Alaska. With grueling 18-hour workdays and a lot of creative problem solving, she’s part of a small percentage of women sustainably harvesting fish from the world’s largest, completely wild, sockeye salmon run.

    - Gulick Theatre, Noble Center Science+ Feminism+ Theatre: What could be better? Auditions for the Fall 2022 University Theatre production of "Silent Sky" by Lauren Gunderson and directed by Jen Thomas will be held on Thursday, September 1 from 7-9 p.m. in Gulick Theatre.     - Richard F. Brush Art Gallery The Richard F. Brush Art Gallery presents work by one of the most well-known contemporary American street artists, Shepard Fairey on display from Wednesday, August 10 through Saturday, September 3. In celebration of the exhibition, the community is invited to participate in a sticker design contest. Submissions are due Thursday, September 1 at noon.

    - Peterson-Kermani Performance Hall The St. Lawrence Writers Series welcomes Robin Hemley, the inaugural Viebranz Visiting Professor of Creative Writing. Registration is required for this in-person event.

    Rhythm and Roots Ensemble Concert

    - Launders Underground St. Lawrence University's Rhythm and Roots Ensemble will present an evening of songs in the style of 1950s Rhythm and Blues. The in-person event is free, open to the public, and available via live streaming.

    Track and Field Teams Secure Ice Broken Open Titles; Spring Sports Continue

    The Saints track and field teams are continuing a winning streak after securing team titles at Ice Broken Open on Saturday. The women's team won 12 events and the men's team won 9 events during the home meet against Castleton, Clarkson, Herkimer, NVU-Johnson, Plattsburgh, and Potsdam. The weekend wins continued with the men’s and women’s tennis teams each dominating Bard 9-0 while men’s lacrosse defeated Ithaca 14-10 and women’s lacrosse beat Bard 20-8. Baseball defeated Ithaca 6-2 after beating SUNY Poly 2-0 last week while Esports advanced to the Elite 8 in the Teemo Cup after securing a 2-0 win over Milligan University. After winning its 11th-straight Regional Championship,  four members of Saints riding will advance to Zones on April 9. Eleven skiers from the Alpine and Nordic ski teams were honored by the United States Collegiate Ski Coaches Association (USCSCA) for having earned National Collegiate All-Academic Ski Team honors for the 2022 season while six members of the men's and women's track and field teams earned all-region honors for the indoor season, as announced by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

    Saints Fall Sports in Full Swing

    The fall sports season is well underway as Saints women's soccer shut out the competition this weekend with a 1-0 win over Colby-Sawyer and a 7-0 win over SUNY Potsdam. The wins for the Scarlet and Brown continued as Emma Palumbo '25 and Timmy Boyce '25 each won the Cardinal Classic 5K during the men's and women's cross country meet in Plattsburgh, and Jimmy King '26 claimed the individual title for Saints men's golf while the 'A' team secured a win to open the season. First-year Molly Jespersen secured the 'B' Flight Singles title during the opening weekend for the women's tennis team while Jenny L'Hommedieu 23 scored her first goal of the season to lead the field hockey team to a 1-0 win over Oneonta. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

    Saints Skate to ECAC Sweep

    It was a great weekend to be a Saint as women's ice hockey dominated the competition during ECAC conference play at Appleton. The Scarlet and Brown skated to a 1-0 win over Union on Saturday after securing a 3-0 win over RPI on Friday. The wins continued with women's swimming and diving dominating Clarkson 135-95, field hockey topping Morrisville 3-0 to conclude its season, Saints football securing a 35-21 win over Rochester, and men's soccer defeating Hobart 1-0 after shutting out Plattsburgh 3-0 earlier in the week. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.
